davethediver 0 Posted February 7, 2008 Hi, new to this site, and wanted some advice. I have seen other posts that touch on the subject, and mention the DX1G, but none ask this specific question. Is the Sea and Sea, DX1G the best camera/housing package in its price range? or would I be better off starting with a different digi camera and buying a housing for that? I've heard mentions of Sony's and Canon's, but haven't got a scooby to be honest, and would appreciate your help. Thanks for your time. Dave.
james 0 Posted February 7, 2008 Hi Dave, Welcome to Wetpixel. I can't say if it's the "best" camera in this range, for one because "best" depends on your needs, and secondly, because I haven't used this camera to compare to the others. However, there are a few other cameras in this range that are quite good. The Canon G9 with Canon or Ikelite TTL housing is one of them. Cheers James
davethediver 0 Posted February 8, 2008 Hi James, thanks for the reply on my question. I mainly want to use the camera for the usual scuba holiday shots, also for freediving pics and short video clips if possible. I would like to use the camera on surface as a general point and shoot too. Thanks again, Dave.
MikeVeitch 0 Posted February 8, 2008 what price range is it?
davethediver 0 Posted February 8, 2008 Hi Mike, I've seen one for about £600 without strobe, not sure if I can get it cheaper but thats what I'm looking at spending on the camera and housing. Thanks Dave.
Carly 0 Posted February 8, 2008 Dave, I've just bought this camera. I got it from http://www.uwdigitalcamera.com/ here, I got caught out by the tax man, and paid approx £530 for it by the time I'd paid tax etc, it all depends on the exchange rate you get, I also know that some people I spoke to were more lucky than me with the tax man. I was impressed by the speed of service and would happily recommend him. Everywhere that I looked apart from Cameras Underwater don't include the battery and charger, I got some from ebay pretty cheap. I've only used the camera above water at the moment and so far I really like it. I looked at the G9 and came very choosing that instead, but I knew that I'd want to add on a wide angle lens, which for the G9 means that you need the Ikelite housing and short port, this makes that more expensive than the DX-1G. I also was attracted by the GX-1G's 24mm lens which I find very useful. Another thing that swayed me was that the wide angle lens you can add underwater can also be used on land. Just some things you might want to think about! Carly
