Need new camera I think

Recommended Posts

I have had a Sea & Sea 8000 for three years now. It has been ok - has some issues with design, but every camera has good and bad to it. Now (in the bahamas of course, halfway through a trip!!!) the S&S will only turn on, not open the lens cover, and then shut off when I try to do anything else. Tried new batteries, new settings, etc. nothing helps. Was not able to get any pictures of a great area today, huge ray, etc.

So if I was looking for a new digital u/w, forget the $$$, what would people suggest? I am not interested in doing SLR u/w - I know the advantages and love all my canon stuff for the surface, but too stupid to use SLR u/w and don't want to risk ever flooding that stuff. Looking for suggestions.......

Thanks

I am far from being an expert but I have had 3 Canon P/S with underwater housing and liked them overall. The latest one (A640) had a slight leak in the housing first time out and Canon is replacing/repairing the camera/housing freee.

I am thinking of selling the housing and camera once its returned and stepping up to the G9 though not certain. There seems to be considerable camera info on this website but I am quite new to it.

I considered the Nikon 5100 but it appears the shutter lag is long based on various test articles. That is the one thing I dislike compared to the DSLR approach. The Canon's have gotten the lag shorter with each new camera so its not too bad now.

Hope this helps a little.

I recently got a Canon G9 and am quite happy with it. Has manual control, high resolution video, TTL with Ikelite housing and strobes, . . .

Lots of posts here on the G9 so you should be able to get quite a few perspectives.

Hi easy diver

thinking of upgrading your underwater camera can be long process.

i would agree withthe previous posters recomendation of the canon G9 in ike housing , lots of folks are using them and getting very good results .

im using a p5000 in ikelite housing and getting some very good photos , so i would not rule out the nikon p5000 . the shooting speed is ok .

here is a link to some shots taken with the P5000
