Hi,

You'll need to get a TTL converter and a 6-pin bulkhead installed in your housing in order to get TTL. You should ask Aquatica or your dealer about it.

Then you can use many of the modern digital strobes.

Hey Razz,

My 40D setup is with the Ikelite housing and dual Ikelite DS125's. I shoot with the Canon 10-22mm and the 60mm, both with great results using TTL on the DS125's. Check Ikelite out for a housing to TTL converter that will work with their strobes. These strobes are robust, bright, and fast. I have no problems getting full light coverage on wide angle, and the TTL on macro is easy. Give Iklite a call, I'm sure they will have a solution for you.. This is just an option and my opinion as there are many ways you can go here.

Cheers

Derek...

You need to make your housing look like this:

This is a shot of an S6 bulkhead we installed in an Aquatica housing for another customer. This customer elected to retain one Nikonos connector as a manual backup.

Then buy one of these:

In addition to the option presented by Ryan, you can also have your housing outfitted with an Ikelite bulkhead. Its now an option when ordering all Aquatica housings. Having one Ike bulkhead (and one standard) will allow you to use any Ikelite DS series strobe along with the appropriate Ike TTL converter giving you TTL, and still retain the standard bulkhead for backup. Your Aquatica dealer should be able to swap out the bulkhead or send it in for Aquatica to do as well.

wow! i'm really excited about the possibility of getting my Aqatica housing converted for TTL - a couple questions

- with the Aquatica conversion can i shoot one strobe from the nikon bulkhead and one from the new ikelite bulkhead?

- how reliable are the ikelite TTL converters? i seem to recall reading about some issues

- does the ikelite converter support two strobes?

This information is correct for Nikon shooters, but incorrect for Canon shooters like Razz...

Aquatica is only offering a single Ikelite bulkhead solution, which is lacking in redundancy. We use a printed distribution board printed that fits nicely in the front of the Aquatica/Nikon housings that allows us to pop in 2 Ikelite bulkheads & a ttl hotshoe. This also simplifies our pole cam installations, and makes field servicing easier than hard wired/soldered systems.

Dual cords are a better way to go... This is possible in some situations, but there are exceptions.

They haven't been failure prone.

Yeah, via a dual sync cord.

Ikelite does not build a ttl converter for Canon at this time, but I expect one in the near future using S6 sockets. In any case, if you are a canon shooter and you want TTL, you'd best be getting some S6 sockets in your housing :guiness:

I hope you are right about that one - when I spoke with them at BTS they said no go on trying for the Canon TTL though things always do change. Maybe my begging at the show helped? :guiness: The funny part is I do not really miss TTL, but it is like Spinal Tap, I want everything at 11 :guiness:

okay, to convert a Aquatica housing for Canon TTL i need the following?:

- conversion with 2 S6 bulkheads

- something from Heinrichs Weikamp (not clear to me exactly what this is from the link) for each bulkhead connected to a strobe

- some kind of cable for each strobe

- one or two Ikelite TTL strobes

still trying to get my head around how this whole setup works - my UW strobe experience limited to my Inon in manual mode with the 20D
