mmb 0 Posted May 22, 2003 Last week end was my first time with the WA. All the shots in macro overexposed! At home I see that if I "tell" to the camera that I heve this lens I can´t reduce the flash power, so could be better shot in "normal lense" configuration? If I don´t "tell" the camera that I´m using the WA I can reduce the flash power. Somebody knows what exactly do the internal camera configuration for diferents lens? One pic overexposed: Thanks Mariano
kdietz 0 Posted May 22, 2003 use normal.............-2 flash compensation............move flash back Karl
mmb 0 Posted May 22, 2003 Karl: So you tell the camera you are using the 19mm and move the flash back? Nothing more? Mariano
kdietz 0 Posted May 22, 2003 Mariano, No, tell the camera to use "Normal" lens............do not tell it to use wide angle lens For macro only, exposure settings will vary, but start with f8 and a high shutter speed ( this will effect background color.....faster will be blacker.......for blue, use a slower speed ).........flash compensation at -2 and move flash back as a last resort If you are using TTL, and it's still overexposed..........switch to manual and try 1/8th power I've switched to the Ikelite manual controller and will use it for the first time in two weeks Karl
mmb 0 Posted May 22, 2003 OK, Karl Normal lens, starting with f/8, high shutter speed (slowler for blue background) and flash compensation on -2. Look this picture, the shutter speed was 1/500 so we have dark background; for blue, better 1/250 or 1/125. Isn´t it? About Ikelite manual controller don´t forget showme the results! Dave H 0 Posted May 23, 2003 mmb, as Karl mentioned previously, the more you slow down your shutter speed, the bluer the background/water will appear. This is because you are allowing more light to be captured on the image. I personally prefer to achieve a black background, especially for macro work. Dave H 0 Posted May 23, 2003 Karl, I'm interested to hear how you go with the manual controller. I've been tossing up whether to purchase it for my setup but haven't been convinced there will be any major benefits. I'd love some feedback and if possible a photo of how you rigged it to your system. cheers, Dave
kdietz 0 Posted May 23, 2003 Dave, We are going the the Flower Gardens in the Gulf of Mexico next weekend.........I'll let you know how the manual controller works out........... I use dual DS-125's, but I bought only 1 manual controller............I plan to use the left strobe as primary and the right strobe as fill..........I'll use my dual sync cord...........left side goes to manual controller and the right side goes to right strobe..........the manual controller will only work with the left strobe............I plan to preset the right strobe with one of the onboard power levels and then work with the main strobe.......... I'm too cheap to buy 2 controllers until I see how they work......I'll probably set the fill strobe to 1/4 power or so and then work with the controller on the primary strobe We'll see!
