Benthic7 0 Posted May 22, 2008 I was looking at Nexu's website and saw this: http://www.usanexus.com/ Anybody know anything about this? Is this the same Reef Photo that sponsors this site? I'm buying an UW rig for my D300 and was planning on going to Reef to get my hands around the equipment. This makes me a bit leery..................... diverdon 1 Posted May 22, 2008 I was looking at Nexu's website and saw this: http://www.usanexus.com/ Anybody know anything about this? Is this the same Reef Photo that sponsors this site? I'm buying an UW rig for my D300 and was planning on going to Reef to get my hands around the equipment. This makes me a bit leery..................... When the Subal for my D200 needed a new circuit board it was Ryan who got it fixed for me. Ryan said that the corrosion on the board made it look like I had allowed salt water to get onto the housing. I assured him that I had not had any flood and he replaced the board at no cost to me despite concerns that he might have trouble getting compensated by Subal. I guess that there are various ways you might interpret this story. I would discuss this issue with reef photo. If I wanted to buy a Nexus from them I would ask them to send me a email assuring that they would get any warranty work required done for me. Once I had that email I would buy it and not worry about it again. I know that anything that can be fixed on a housing can be fixed at reef photo. bruceterrill 0 Posted May 22, 2008 Hi Guys, I bought my Nexus housing from Ryan and I would again! He told me straight up that he imports them into USA and I would have to return it to him for warranty or repair...no worries. Great product and one of the nicest guys that I have ever met!! It is just sour grapes on the other group's behalf because they can't match Ryan's sales or friendly service. Credit where credit is due...Kudos to Ryan and his crew. BTW, I haven't had to return any Nexus product for warranty or repair. Buy with confidence and give Ryan a call... IMHO... Bruce...
Vettediver 0 Posted May 22, 2008 Ryan needs to chime in here but now that Reef is selling SeaTool housings he told me he is no longer importing Nexus housings .
Ryan 48 Posted May 22, 2008 Thanks for all of the kind words guys! I understand the gray market stigma, but in this situation I feel like we are unfairly a victim of some "clever" marketing by a competitor with a direct conflict of interest. Nexus is distributed in the USA by Marine Camera Distributors in San Diego, one of our retail competitors. We gave them a shot a few years ago, but it didn't work out. I felt like I could offer my customers better delivery times, prices, and after sale service by importing Nexus housings directly from Japan. Due to an exclusive sales arrangement between Nexus Japan and MCD, we were forced to source housings from several Japanese retailers. We clearly listed this in our online product catalog. We preformed all warranty service in house, or by shipping housings to our Japanese suppliers when necessary. MCD's statement about after sale service is profoundly incorrect, and would be disputed by every customer who has ever reported an issue to us with their Nexus housing. We still offer Nexus housings in situations where they are leading housing, like the Olympus E3. For the latest Nikons they haven't fit in very well (mostly because of Nexus' omission of focus lock in an ergonomic fashion) and they've never really built a comprehensive port lineup for Canon, so we haven't done much with Nexus housings lately. Starbuck 0 Posted May 23, 2008 I have purchased 4 Nexus housings from Woody at www.nexusamerica.com. If you need Nexus and associated ports he is a good resource. BUT, I have also purchased a bunch of stuff from Ryan at Reef Photo Video... You will do well purchasing your equipment from either source.. M.
BotSO 0 Posted May 23, 2008 (edited) I have not purchased Nexus housings from Reef Photo but I have purchased quite a lot of Ikelite gear and two Fisheye Fix lights from them. Reef's service and support is excellent and I've found Ryan to be a stand up guy who stands behind the products he sells. It might take them a day or two to get back to an email inquiry but I've always found them helpful. I'd buy from them without any worries...
