StephenFrink 9 Posted June 16, 2008 (edited) First day in the water with new Canon 1DMKIII, here in Key Largo. Later in the week I'll try my 1DsMKIII. Had a nice surprise when looking at images tonight ... I've never seen a digital file hold detail in the ball of sun like this one. Interesting development. rodriguezfelix 0 Posted June 16, 2008 How do you compare with D300?
StephenFrink 9 Posted June 16, 2008 How do you compare with D300? Good question. I am teaching Advanced seminars here in Key Largo this week and next. http://waterhousetours.com/instruction Several D300s in the class, so I'll try to find similar optics, maybe 12-24 on Nikon and 16-35II on my Canon, and shoot side-by-side. Stand by to stand by.

loftus 42 Posted June 16, 2008 Hey Steve, When I get there next week we can line them all up, D200, D300 (I thought Anna would have a D3 by now). It will be interesting to see throughout the aperture and shutter speed range, because 1/800 is not going to be very practical for many shots.
rodriguezfelix 0 Posted June 17, 2008 (edited) I just got really nice results with sunballs (crappy composition and photos but nice sunballs) testing the D300 in Bonaire. Not just a shallow depths, but at 70 - 80ft. also... Not that this MKIII doesn´t look pretty, pretty good too... Since you already said many good things about D300 light handle, I like to know how you compare both cameras on this issue. Claude 0 Posted June 19, 2008 I did some shots in Lembeh with the D300 recently - here's one at 30 feet. Claude

Depth: 22 feet Time and EXIF details: Hi Stephen What flash (sorry - strobes) are you using to get f./18 at ISO 100? I have switched to Inons from Subtronic for reasons of check-in weight but rarely now get past f./11 at ISO200. I used a Sea and Sea YS250 for a primary and Ike DS125 as a secondary for this shot. However, YS250 needs more diffusion than comes standard, especially for a fisheye. I use a Nikonos SB105 diffuser for that. Took a little modification to make it fit, but not rocket science. YS250 has a lot of juice when you need it, and very quick recycle.
