D700 in Nexus housing

Recommended Posts

D700 was put into my modified D200 Nexus housing today.

It seats properly on the base plate (same center line as d300)

& front and top controls are in line. Back cover was closed & was

in line with D300 controls. Basically, same size as D300 except

'big' top prism box(still goes into housing).

When I receive my D700 on 25 July, I will make my housing

working with it & test the camera. My first impression was I

felt like I am holding my F100 camera. I also, took few test

shots & looks very good.

pic shows back cover closed & back controls are same as d300.

Lens shows d700 has same center line as d300

Nexus has more room above the pentaprism than Subal I think; this may be the swing factor in my next housing. A D700 and/or D300 in a Nexus housing.........

Going by DPreview’s measurements, the D300 stands 114mm high, the D700 121mm high.

With the D300 in place inside my Subal housing, the clearance at the top (with shoe in place) is 8mm. So it looks like the D700 could, although a little tight, fit inside a Subal D300 housing.

Local Nikon show room has d700 on display, like they did when d300 came out. Viewfinder was lined up but, did not had chance to test Inon finder yet & I may cut/make new back plate this time to perfectly line up back controls.

Bad news is, C-S-M switch is located deeper inside & make very difficult for housing mfr to make control on housing. Upper right LCD is smaller than d300 & makes not easy to see your setting.

When I was modifying Subal & S&S (recently), I noticed back window plate is too small & not showing full screen. Nexus has much wide back plate & it shows full screen. Problem with Nexus is NOT EASY TO GET it these days. People need to wait 2-3 month for d300 housing.

I wonder if anyone try the Sea & Sea D300 housing with the D700 Camera? it can be great if it will feet in, don't have access to D700 to test it myself.

Thanks

would be great if the D700 fit the Aquatica D300 housing. That would enable me to do FF or DX with the same housing.

Hmmm...I would be interested myself if it will fit.....but it won't make much of a difference to me as I think I will wait till another model comes out before buying another body. After much thought, I am perfectly happy with my 300 and DX lenses like the Tokina and my Sigma 18-50 Macro......

There's a comparison diagram here of the D700 and D300.

It does appear that the vertical dimension of the whole top surface, not just the pentaprism, increases, as well as the central lens position.

View finder is not in line. However, I can see full view finder/screen as is now

& have no problem to take housing underwater & take pictures today but,

I will be making new window, too.

Both f-stop & shutter speed dial works fine as is, too.

There is new 'info' button & will try to make one extra button for it, too.

Great news! I bet those Nexus D200 housings will be a hot item.

Can't wait to see some underwater photos from the D700 Sam - don't keep us waiting too long, ok? :-)

Cheers

D700 has bigger/larger pentaprism (view finder area) than D300

& S&S housing was built too tight to D300 & I could not put d700

into S&S d300 housing at all.
