loftus 42 Posted July 8, 2008 (edited) Speaking to the Canon rep in Florida 2 weeks ago - I asked him what's next in DSLR's with image quality reaching a point of diminishing returns with each new upgrade. His reply was that the next big feature in DSLR's will be merging of video and still, along the lines of the RED camera. Canon should clearly have an edge over Nikon here as they already make video cams, so it should be interesting to see how Nikon keeps up. Would be nice to see some work on extending dynamic range of ccd's but I guess the effect would not be so visible to the average punter as the MP escalator or 'with added video' feature set. Have just dragged a D70 from the depths of a mates garage to play about a bit with IR (on the surface), that brought home to me just how far things have progressed noise wise when I compare it with my D300, so I guess it may all happen. High speed RAW capture rates may effectively lead to the possibility of in-camera High Dynamic Range images, by combining multiple images of different exposures. The limiting factor of course is the amount of movement of the subject between images.
