Filmbeloh20 0 Posted July 26, 2008 I recently picked up a Gates HC9 with the NiteRider HID 20s. This is a hobby for me, so it's not that big of a deal - but.... The manual for my lights reads that I should go through about 5 charge cycles to get the battery at it's full available power, so I've been charging them, and burning them either in the pool or in the bathtub. I noticed yesterday when they were in the tub that one lamp head is a very obviously different color than the other - way more blue in it. I sent an e-mail to NR customer service, but I thought one of you guys might have an explanation as well. Is it normal for two of the same type of heads to be different? Thanks in advance! jonny shaw 16 Posted July 28, 2008 Is it just when the light comes on or does it look a different colour once the bulbs have warmed? HID's take a few seconds to get up to temp, they will also flicker slightly initially
Fasano2112 0 Posted July 30, 2008 My Light and Motion HIDs do the same thing. But once they completely warm up, ~25 secs, the colors match quite well.
Probie 0 Posted July 31, 2008 I recently purchased 2 darkbuster 24W HID's and have the same thing. one is of a slightly different color than the other. (not enough for me to worry about) Being an electrician and installing many HID globes and fittings above water I can say that this is a common occurance with different batches of globes being made. The batches don't always match each other perfectly. It is usually hit and miss. A note to the supplier or manufacturer can sometimes help with them sending you 2 globes from one batch. But depending on the distance between you both it usually leaves you footing a bill of some ammount. Hope this helps. Probie
Filmbeloh20 0 Posted August 4, 2008 Hey guys, thanks for the replies. It's actually two very obviously different color temps, and it happens no matter how long I let the lamps warm up. I think that Probie is right - I've experienced this sort of thing with other lamps that I use in topside work - this is my first experience with HID. Roger Eve 0 Posted August 4, 2008 Hi It's the same for me. I had two Niterider 10's that were pretty well matched, but had to replace one and they are now slightly different. In actual use I really do not notice it. Roger
