A Trio from Blairgowrie.

Recommended Posts

Here's three lovelies from my last dive at Blairgowrie Marina, the vis was a bit average so I focused even more on the macro shots.

Happy to get the focus in around about the right place but would love some

extra DOF. Port Phillip Pipefish, Vanacampus philippi.

Stocked to capture this tiny squid in its defensive pose.

Southern Pygmy Squid, Idiosepius notoides, full zoom with 2 x UCL165.

A very common Nudibranch hereabouts but very attractive nonetheless.

Short Tailed Ceratasoma, Ceratasoma brevicaudatum.

On reflection I think I may have erred too far on the desaturated side with the processing on this batch :P

Think I was probably just too tired and bleary eyed when doing it :)

Cheers,

Jim :offtopic:

You're the man Jim,

I have to sell all my DSLR equipment because I can no longer see to use the viewfinder.

Finding the Pipefish and the Pygmy Squid are near impossible for me at the moment.

I tend to err on the side of desaturation also. I don't want my pics looking like they have been colored in by 'Kindy' kids.

Your images look just fine to me. . . . very natural.

Good effort my friend, :offtopic:

Bruce...

BTW, complete Nikon D70S, Nexus rig going for a song if you know anyone.

Heaps of very expensive gear at rediculous price. . . .

Thanks Stephen and Bruce.

Bruce that's sad news on the viewfinder front, I sometimes wonder how many years I have left too

when I skwint at the computer when PSing or the viewscreen of the camera UW.

Cheers,

Jim.

Bruce my friend, sorry to hear that. Have you tried putting prescription lenses in your mask? There is a great outfit in San Diego that can do it for you. They ship all over the world.

Love the first two Jim, for some reason I can't see the third. Can you tell us what your camera settings were? I checked them out on your Flickr page but you have the info suppressed. If you don't want to I understand, I was just looking to see if there was an easy way to get you some more DOF.

Hey Jim

Love the shots, especially the close up of the pipefish. I've never gotten close enough to one under Blairgowrie to get that shot.

Very nice, especially the squid. Oh, and you got me going .... I thought you meant Blairgowrie in Scotland and was wondering how I'd missed out on diving there! Best wishes. :)

Hi Steve I went back and adjusted the Nudi shot and reloaded it, forgetting it would change

the URL and drop it off this post. So here it is again with a very slight colour adjustment.

The settings were- 1. Pipefish 1/60s, f8, iso 80, focal length 28.8mm

2. Squid 1/125s, f6.4, iso 80, focal length 28.8mm

3. Nudi 1/80, f8, iso 80, focal length 13.5mm

Thanks Elaine yes perhaps I could have been more specific :)

Hi Brad have you been back diving since Fiji?

Cheers,

Jim.

Jim

We have a 3 year old. I have been in the water 5 times seince March last year, and 2 of those were housing tests for the new camera and the modified video housing. Just haven't found the time b/w all the usual stuff you do with a little one. Off to Fiji again though next Tuesday so I'm hanging for some fun with the new 450d.

Must get back to Blairgowrie though..... Your shots keep inspiring me

Brad
