wesley 0 Posted June 23, 2003 I just sold my sea and sea housing and got the Aquatica D100 instead but I went on BH Photo to buy the ports and they seem to have a variety of the same size ports with different model numbers. I emailed Aquatica but they seem to be slower at responding than a computer manufacturer. I have a 16mm fisheye and a 60mm macro. So i want an 8inch dome and a flat port but don't know which model #'s. Any other Aquatica owners know which model numbers I need? Thanks
Rick 0 Posted June 24, 2003 Can't help you on the ports, but I am interested in why you replaced your Sea and Sea housing (I assume it was the DX100) with an Aquatica housing. I have a D100 and was just about to order the Sea and Sea housing for it. Any comments you have would be appreciated. BTW, I'm having similar problems with Sea and Sea regarding port questions. I called them and emailed them about 10 days ago and haven't been able to get a response on a port question. That's the only reason I haven't ordered the housing yet. wesley 0 Posted June 24, 2003 Hi Rick Yes I had the DX100. Its actually a very nice housing and if your thinking about getting it you will probably be happy with it. I took some nice shots with it. The reason I am movig to the Aquatica is that I found the Sea and Sea to be a bit bulky, the latches were a bit of a pain to open and close, and it was too positively bouyant with the large dome port attached. I also found some of the controls difficult to operate. The Aquatica is a bit more compact, all metal, and very reasonably priced (as far as underwater housings go). Aquatica got back to me with the port requirements and they are on the way. Good luck waiting to hear from Sea and Sea...they are notorius for bad service. Rick 0 Posted June 24, 2003 Wesley Thanks for the reply. Bulk, latches, and buoyancy were all things that I had read about in various refiews and forums. The fact that you are switching housings tells me that I should probably be more concerned about them. I just received a response from Sea and Sea to my email. I asked 4 questions and they answered one of them. One of my questions was do I need to order A or B and they responded "That is correct" - amazing. The scuba shop I deal with told me that their support was bad, but I really had no idea how bad. At this point, I've decided to take a closer look at other housings. Unfortunately, I have a dive trip in early August and was hoping to use my new D100 camera on that trip. But I think it's better to do my research and get it right. Didn't mean to turn this thread into a housing thread, Thanks again.
Lionfish43 0 Posted June 26, 2003 Wesley, Could you share the port info with us. I'm looking at ordering an Aquatica D100 from B&H as well and it will probably save me some grief. The price right now is $1484...that's a good deal.
james 0 Posted June 26, 2003 Here's the Aquatica port you use for the 60mm: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh6/controlle...u=126191&is=REG And here's the dome you use w/ the Fisheye: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh6/controlle...u=125848&is=REG You'll probably also want to purchase a port shade for the dome. The shade for the "Wideangle lens" is best for this application - it won't show in your shots w/ the 16mm. I would also recommend the neoprene covers for the above to protect your ports from scratches. HTH James Wiseman
