reefkeep2 0 Posted January 4, 2009 (edited) When I use an extension port it seems like the outer port could unlock with ease underwater or during entry. Is this normal, do they tighten up under pressure? Compared to the UK Germany or Ike’s ports they seem loose. For clarification, it’s loose on the main housing as well but the sea & sea lock prevents the port from coming loose. I just snagged a Fisheye, custom port, and an extender off ebay. I’m ready to get wet; I just don’t want the camera to get wet. Thanks for your help! Edited January 4, 2009 by reefkeep2
IMSushi 0 Posted January 4, 2009 reefkeep, yes it is normal for there to be a little "play" in the port/extension ring connections. I agree that at first it is pretty unnerving, but as soon as you get in the water, the pressure of the water pushes them together. As long as you have properly maintained your O-ring, it will be fine. Always test it first without a camera when you first get your housing. As well, always dunk test your set up in the camera bucket or in the water. Look for a stream of bubbles that would indicate a leak! Also, only the first extension ring or port will be actually locked by the S&S locking mechanism. Everything is marked with an "OPEN" and "LOCKED" mark. I've made it a habit to always look at those before I get in the water and every-now-and-then when I'm shooting under water. It is pretty obvious if your dome gets turned while attached to an extension ring...the shades are off center. Even if it does get turned, it's not the end of the world. You actually need to turn it pretty far and apply a lot of force to get those things apart on the surface.

Thanks that makes me feel a lot better, I may take it in the pool tonight and see what happens. Thanks Edited January 4, 2009 by reefkeep2
reefkeep2 0 Posted January 5, 2009 (edited) Tested, not a drop of water...Yeah!!! The pictures are rather soft, I used a 15mm Sigma Fisheye, I have not used this lens in years, I may need to do some tests above water. That or the SS was not enough to slow down my daughter. (no strobes and it was starting to get a little dark). Thanks again guys... Edited January 5, 2009 by reefkeep2
james 0 Posted January 5, 2009 Heated pool - you lucky guy! I think they are just soft from a slow SS. Cheers James
reefkeep2 0 Posted January 10, 2009 James, I think you are right............What no one wants to tell me how cute my daughter is??? Shame on you all! Ok, I forgive you, but don't let it happen again. got great news today...... I was told I need to be in the Cayman Islands on the 29th for work! I worked out a deal that gets me on the Island on the 26th, so I'll get 3 or 4 days of good diving in before work starts! I am so excited, sorry I had to tell someone! I'll be staying at the Sunset house for the first three days if anyone needs a dive partner.
Steve Williams 0 Posted January 10, 2009 (edited) I want your job! Your in luck too. Alex will be giving a class and a bunch of Wetpixelians will be in Cayman that week. Check out http://wetpixel.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=25402 . I'll miss you by a week but there should be a Barbeque Thursday night you might be able to crash if you bring the appropriate beverages. Have fun, Steve Edited January 10, 2009 by Steve Williams
