JohnLiddiard 16 Posted January 12, 2009 (edited) I have been using the Sea & Sea TTL Converter II with a D200 in Subal Housing with 2* Inon Z240 since it first came out. Once I got used to its quirks it has been working nicely, save for the well-known electrolysis issue......Up until a few dives ago. Now it fires strobes at random, even with the camera turned off. With the camera on, it fires the strobes, but massively underexposed. I have resorted to taking it off the rig and working manually, so have not had to come home without pictures. Things I have already tried: - New battery - Checked all connectors for water - Cleaning all connections - Cleaning D200 hot shoe - Confirm Subal internal cable is in the correct socket Has anyone had a similar problem, and what was the solution? IMSushi 0 Posted January 13, 2009 No idea, but I have a brand new one, TTL II, for sale! Still in the box. Let me know!
okuma 63 Posted January 13, 2009 Firing by it's self ...... seems to imply a moisture/corrosion short some where. Check all cable connections/pins to make sure they're clean; maybe some commerical aerosol contact cleaner - best to keep it off the plastic areas.
sgietler 1 Posted January 13, 2009 I agree with what okuma said. massively underexposed usually means the timing is off. I'd try to borrow a friend's housing for a few minutes to see if the problem is in your TTL converter, or in the subal bulkhead. good luck, Scott
simoncarolan 1 Posted March 25, 2009 John, I had a simillar problem with my unit recently and it turned out that it had flooded. There seems to be an issue where the two halves of the casing join, just at the mounting tab. The rear of the unit is clear but quite dark and if you hold it up to the light you can just make out the water inside. When Sea & Sea brought out the TTL Converter III the design of the casing and now the two outgoing ports are on top and the short sync lead is on one side. jcclink 8 Posted March 25, 2009 (edited) Are both strobes firing in sync? If one fires a fraction of a second before the other, the shutter is only catching light from one strobe. I had this problem on the original model converter. Edited March 25, 2009 by jcclink
shchae 3 Posted March 26, 2009 Hi, I had similar problem with my TTL cnvtr2 & sent to S&S for check & it turned out converter was bad/damaged(not flooded) and repaired. I think you have to send it back to S&S for check & repair. Sam
DDT uk 4 Posted March 26, 2009 John There have been discussions about the TTL II converters. Mine went back after it started doing weird and wonderful things (before not doing anything at all). It turned out that the problem was a leak on the seal of the main unit. I have been told that this has been a problem on a good number of these.
