Lasse 1 Posted February 5, 2009 Last week I had the opportunity to go to a fjord on the west coast of Norway to dive with the deep water jellyfish Periphylla periphylla. This jellyfish usually lives in the depths between 1000 and 7000 meters. The jellyfish migrates towards the surface in the winter at night, and Lurefjorden north of Bergen is one of the few places in the world you can dive with them. The diving takes place at night, in free-water in the deepest part of the fjord. It was an extraordinary experience to dive with this strange creatures. It felt like diving with aliens Se more photos on my homepage: Coldwaterphoto
loftus 42 Posted February 5, 2009 Really spectacular images Lasse! How deep were you?
Lasse 1 Posted February 5, 2009 Really spectacular images Lasse! How deep were you? The photos are taken between 10 and 35 meters. Tt was more of them the deeper you got. The problem is to keep your depth in free water at night.. The jellys are quite fast swimmers when you shine the light on them. I have to admit my diveprofile looked like a yo -yo Lasse
nortoda1 13 Posted February 5, 2009 Cool photo lasse. What sort of size are these jellies? Are we talking macro or wideangle?
Lasse 1 Posted February 5, 2009 Cool photo lasse. What sort of size are these jellies? Are we talking macro or wideangle? All the photos are shot with the Tokina 10-17 and Nikon D300. I guess the body is aprox. 20-25 cm high. I have seen photos from scientist where they are bigger. Lasse
