Scubamoose 0 Posted February 10, 2009 Great news! I wonder about the cost tough. Unlikely it's gonna be cheaper than "normal" CCR's.
expatdiver 0 Posted February 10, 2009 I saw an article in Asian diver about this one and another one last year. They both looked promising, and were specifically targeting the recreational diver, which to me means a reasonable price point. I just wonder how much weight they'll add to my gear bags. Maarten_NL 0 Posted February 10, 2009 Great news! I wonder about the cost tough. Unlikely it's gonna be cheaper than "normal" CCR's. Me wonders too... I am looking into SCR for some time now but did not make a descision yet.. if this CCR is close to a Dräger Dolphin SCR (which is upgradable to a CCR) it may be an option to look into. AndyBarker 6 Posted February 10, 2009 HI, I dive a vison CCR & would think that all have the potenital to kill you, so their is no one easer to dive that an other the problem is we add a camera to look after. You still have to know how to run & know what to do if you have problems, which can happen at any time. So you must at all times know what gas you are breathing & monitor your hand sets. as for setup times I normally set mine up the night before & run it up as well. Then pos/neg test & run up again before the dive, to dive this type of equipment you must be disciplined at all times, don't get me wrong I am not saying not to try this kind of equipment, but I am just saying its not a easy way do dive CCR. As to start with SCR I went this way,but found I wasted money as after 4months I went full CCR, I know in the UK you can do try dives in a pool to give you a idear of what it is like to dive with one. rtrski 20 Posted February 10, 2009 (edited) Nothing is entirely "for dummies" about scuba, even outside of rebreathers. Fortunately, as there are enough 'dummies' in most other sports. As for the commented CCR, that's the Cis-Lunar Eric was asking about just a few posts down...I'm eagerly watching development of both this and the Open Revolution rebreather concepts. Which I know is ludicrous since I barely had time/money to do 20 dives last year, so investment in an RB at this point is just beyond stupid for me. The Octopus 0 Posted February 11, 2009 Major problems are CO2 build up due to channeling in the scrubbers or expended scrubber material nand oxygen toxicity. Concept of a ccr is to replace the amount of oxygen that is used up by the diver adding or replacing diluent gas as needed to maintain a specific oxyegen concentration in the mix, i.e. 1.o ATA, 1.2, 1.4, 1.5, 1.6 ATA of oxygen. Other problem is water mixing with the scrubber material leading to caustic cocktail. Lots of benefits but risky , good chance for electrical system malfunction
Timmoranuk 10 Posted February 11, 2009 The Disco is a rig I am seriously interested in. There's a fair bit of information out there, mainly on the Poseidon www site but also some good videos on Vimeo. Having spoken directly with Poseidon in Sweden and the UK, I understand the first release version (very imminent in the UK) is purely recreational, i.e. no deco to 40m and prepacked scrubber carts. Third party companies are already looking at supplying user repackable cartridges and Poseidon plan upgrades to deco software and normoxic mixes. Its expected that the rig will evolve into a 100m unit. I like the idea of continuously validated 02 cells and the opportunity to replace the supplied three litre cylinders with a pair of sevens giving plenty of dil for suit, wing and o/c bailout. A P-port and O2 cell in the counterlung and a hookup to my VR3 will take care of any deco I stumble into. Can't wait to get one wet...
scorpio_fish 5 Posted February 11, 2009 HI,I dive a vison CCR & would think that all have the potenital to kill you, Andy Yes. HI,... so their is no one easer to dive that an other Andy No. That's like saying you could die in a vehicle accident, so no vehicle is safer than another. Don't you think having a backup O2 sensor makes a unit safer than none?
AndyBarker 6 Posted February 12, 2009 HI, what I was trying to get across was CCrs are not for dummies & are not an easy way to get close to the sea life, things can go wrong very quickly & you have to respond in the same manner. As for o2 sensors I have a total of 4on my vison, 3 which run into the hand set & 1 pluged in to my VR computer. Sensors can go down at any time last month I had one go down which was only one month old, I was 25meters down & had been down for 40mins my buddie & me got out with no problems. Then add a camera & we all get in the zone when takin images & you can see posibilities of divers getting in to trouble, when things go wrong. I hope you can see were I am coming from I don't mean to get on the wrong side of people (wetpixelers) on these forums. Andy
ce4jesus 1 Posted February 13, 2009 Andy, No wrong side at all. There are some of us wetpixellers who are quite uneducated about these things and this little discussion certainly helps. Not that anyone would jump headon into this without thorough research, but I have never boned up on CCRs and no little about them. I'm not sure how many times I've exhaled and scared a critter from my view, so there is a desire out there for a steatlhy solution. Cheers, Gary
