SubSee Adapters?

Does anyone have a Subsee they're willing to part with. II'm in desperate need of one for my wife to use as a magnifier on our upcoming PNG trip. 'm happy to pay full price. That way you can replace yours with the new improved version as soon as they're available.

For what housing/port? I have one you could borrow but it depends on what port you want to stick it on.

I'm actually looking for just the SubSee diopter for use as a handheld magnifier. I won't be using it as a diopter so don't need the port adapter.

Could someone please confirm these (seemingly) simple statements without going into a massive amount of mathematics? A simple "yes" or "no" will do nicely.

Yes, you'll get the new 67mm threaded version. The "old" one is no longer in production, and the new ones have been plagued with manufacturing delays, so won't be available until around the end of August... *crosses fingers* Send me an email if you want more information about it.

Incorrect. Sensor size does not affect image magnification. With the same lens, at the same image/object magnification, a DX and FX sensor will have the same depth of field (for a given f-stop).

 

I think what you're talking about has to do with "apparent magnification", in which case, you are also incorrect. If you produce the same image with a DX and FX sensor, the DX sensor will produce more depth of field, since it will be an image at less magnification than the FX. To explain - at 1:1 magnification, an FX sensor gets filled with a 36mm subject, while you'll be able to fill the DX frame with a 36mm subject at a lower magnification level (1:1.5), since it is 'cropped'. With other characteristics held constant, lower magnification results in more depth of field.

 

Sorry about the numbers here, but hard to explain without them! I hope this helps!

The only thing I could find was a thread on Digital Diver as late as October 9th, and still no word.

 

I emailed Reefnet last week but no reply yet.

Keri told me last week that the actual lenses will get delivered to him on the 31st of October (Halloween). Not sure if this is symbolic, but I am eagerly awaiting one for a Philippines trip.

I spoke to Keri on the phone October 19th. They had some problems while getting them ready and Keri had to spend a lot of time to correct the problems and make sure everything is perfect when they are shipped. He told me he was up long into the night answering 40 email messages a day or two before I called. He wants to do right for his customers and make sure they receive a product that is exactly what is promised, hence the delay.

 

 

According to him, the first of two shipments will arrive on October 31st and the second in mid/late November.

Hey guys and gals,

 

Responding to this thread from the DEMA floor.

 

Tracking shows that the first shipment is currently en route to our facility (the package is in our city), after having suffered an unfortunate customs delay - making the October 31st arrival date that I've told so many of you a little off. Orders are shipping out in chronological order, so the folks who placed their orders WAY back in Jan/Feb are obviously getting top priorty on the units coming in. But, as Ellen mentioned, we're scheduled to receive a second batch of lenses to fulfill the rest of the pre-orders before the end of November.

 

There were several manufacturing issues along the way which really slowed down the release process, but now everything has been sorted out, and the lenses are really looking top notch. I'm very excited to get my hands on a final production unit myself! Now that the manufacturing/assembly process has been settled upon, production is a piece of cake, so it isn't likely that there will be any further delays.

 

Regarding lack of response to emails - I sincerely apologize for the slow response times to some of you. Normally, I'm on top of the email pile, and will usually respond within a few hours of receipt - but between the shear volume of (rightfully) curious/disgruntled SubSee customers that I've been dealing with, new customers, and mind-numbing DEMA preparations, I've found myself struggling to keep up. Last night I was up until 4:30am responding to a few dozen emails dating as far back as 2 weeks ago. If I haven't responded to you yet, I ask for your patience, and I'll get to you as soon as I possibly can.

 

The wait is almost over (for real this time...)!

Here are a few pictures taken in Grand Cayman the week after Christmas (D300, Ikelite housing, 60 and 85 mm macro). My daughter used it more as it was here only week to dive. We only used the +5 lens. The nicest part is the easy switch from the regular lens to use of the SubSee.
