Scuba_SI 39 Posted April 24, 2009 I recently acquired a new Macbook Pro 17" with 2.9 Intel chip and made an E-FIX mac desktop. Out of pure geekiness i wanted to see how their performance compared, so i used xbench software to compare the two. Here are screengrabs of the results: MBP17" 2.93Ghz Dual Core Processor Custom Build QuadCore, 8gb Ram, 512mb Graphics Card: Both are at about the same state in terms of program loading, the MBP has only one HDD so it cannot perform well in that department, but i have lots of FW800 drives so it's not a big deal. I am a little dissapointed by the CPU score for the Quad, i will try t find out why that is so in the near future. Maybe others can post how their mac performs so people who are thinking about getting a mac can see the differences.
cor 0 Posted April 24, 2009 If that disk test represents MB/s, that seals it..gotta get an SSD

craig 0 Posted April 24, 2009 Here's the XBench result I got from a Dell M4400. The OS X adaptation was barely functional at the time. I'd suspect the graphics numbers: http://db.xbench.com/merge.xhtml?doc2=339850 Notice the aggregate score for the Scorpio Black drive. It is not the fastest notebook drive any longer. seagrant 4 Posted April 26, 2009 Guys, You know Snow Leopard's going to come out soon and will increase efficiency across the board? So why waste time on tests now? ;-0. They will probably change drastically (for the better) in some cases. But then pre/post tests will be very interesting! Thx for data. Best, Carol
