handiest gadget I ever found

I had one of these Cabelas Lens Pens on my recent 203 dive trip. It made the job of keeping my ports perfectly clear effortless. I used it at least 100 times. This $10 piece of gear really made my life better and I do not know how I ever lived with out it. Of course I know that other people make similar products and you may like a different brand better, But I will never take another dive trip with out a Lens Pen.

I am hoping to start a thread of gadgets that fill our needs for less than $100. I hope this thread will provide a useful stopping off point for us wetpixelators looking to fill the empty space in our bags.

Generally got to be my Leatherman. Great, indestructible and idiot proof (nearly).

Photography wise I love my Cokin Z filters, particularly the Graduated ND and Graduated Blue helps fix all the horrid bright desert skies here.

Underwater photo everything is to expensive to be rated as a gadget.

Cheers,

Richard B.

I have been using lens pens (various suppliers) for many years. Much better than lens tissue and solvent, especially for the coatings of older Scneider lenses. My new favorite is the microfiber cloth with solvent combo. Be sure to get the solvent that can be mailed and carried on an airplane. The microfiber cloth is great for gently wiping static cling crap from the inside of ports.

Another gizmo I like is artificial chamois; lint less, soaks up water like, well a chamois. I cut small squares to wipe/clean o-rings and housing surfaces. I use poly foam swabs to apply lube to fixed o-rings. Those little head lamps that replace a third hand late at night when you are sweating over your rig. A bandana to keep the seat of the gear. And lastly, let’s not forget the used toothbrush for getting crude out of unwelcomed places of your equipment (not you). “These are a few of my favorite things …”

This is dive related and photo related. I have a light weight fish scale that goes to 55lbs. Cost less than $20. Great for weighting the different bags. Has always been within 1/2 pound. Great to have on trip to re-arrange bags if necessary.

Not necessarily underwater related; but the LED light on my Sony Ericsson phone (K550i) is something that's come in handy over and over again. Usually to find other gadgets in the dark too haha

snoopy loops.

price can't be beaten as they're free! find an old car inner tube, cut loads of 1" or ½" wide loops from it. they can be used to secure virtually anything to anything.
