Bigeye Bubblefish 7 Posted May 22, 2009 Hello, I was in red sea last week, and I was using my brand new camera Nikon D90. This is the first time that I was using a reflex underwarter. I was used to shot with my canon G9... For the first dives all went wrong with the D90. This is so complex to use, that you have to learn everything from scratch again. Here is my new gear, a Nikon D90, aquatica housing, 2 DS 125 and a Tokina 10-17 : Here is a sample of shots taken last week: All you comments are more than welcome. log 0 Posted September 19, 2009 Hey Man, I am switching from a Sea & Sea dx-5000g to a Nikon D300 for underwater. Off to the Red Sea in a few weeks. If i came back with 5 photos half the quality of yours i will be very happy. Well done fantastic images. Please keep posting. If you have an oppertunity at anytime include camera/lense settings. I was not an easy switch from my Canon G9 to Nikon D90. I basically had to learn from scratch photo basics during that trip. I was using an Ikelite housing with my G9. This was a good housing as it is robust, inexpensive compared to Patima, and it supports external lens (wide angle or macro). I am finally very pleased with that move as the Nikon D90 gave me more than my initial expectations, sharp corners with wide angle shots and control on the high lights. Some requested the camera and the lens settings. I am only using a tokina 10-17. I alway wanted a dslr, but stayed away for many rea$on$. My girlfriend has a G10. There was not much difference between G9 and G10. However, there is a huge gap between G Series and DSLR... for couple of reasons: - the choice of lens & versatility - the quality of the optics - the size of captor - the high lights management I have been playing with her gear lastly. I am so happy with my new Nikon that I could not revert to compact. And, a DSLR is so much precise. There is no comparison. Damien Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

This week-end I am heading to the south of france for my very first UW competition "Le Challenge de Marseille". And Oct. 31st I am flying to Coco Island. I have an important appointment with sharks !!!! I am using the 8" dome. No regrets, but I do not have any point of comparison vs. §" dome. It is not too big... your gear is already too big. I am coming from the same gear as you, and you will never regret that move. However, i can not compare vs. Canon, as I never used it UW, but I don't like the philosophy and ergonomic.
