Bigeye Bubblefish 7 Posted May 22, 2009 Hello, I was in red sea last week, and I was using my brand new camera Nikon D90. This is the first time that I was using a reflex underwarter. I was used to shot with my canon G9... For the first dives all went wrong with the D90. This is so complex to use, that you have to learn everything from scratch again. Here is my new gear, a Nikon D90, aquatica housing, 2 DS 125 and a Tokina 10-17 : Here is a sample of shots taken last week: All you comments are more than welcome. The complete serie can be seen here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bigeyebubblef...57618353730507/ Thanks,
TheRealDrew 0 Posted May 23, 2009 Some really nice shots in there, looks like you are picking up on the new rig quickly. What problems did you have, was the housing and camera or just getting used to things?
mshohman 0 Posted May 23, 2009 I really liked these shots! The color is great!! You must be so pleased with your new gear. Can be frustrating learning a new system, but very rewarding.... Thanks for sharing! Mike

ornate_wrasse 0 Posted May 23, 2009 J'aime beaucoup les photos! In your first underwater image, there is a small fish. It reminds me of the first time I saw it when diving the Red Sea. A very beautiful fish and a very beautiful image. Merci Ellen

Hani Amir 0 Posted September 18, 2009 Wow! Those are some amazing pictures! You really deserved the upgrade. It's really refreshing to see someone make great use out of their gear. I've seen loads of people upgrading to DSLR's (both topside and below) and STILL complaining that it's their gear that's holding them back.
Timmoranuk 10 Posted September 18, 2009 Superb stuff and its only going to get better I am still shooting a G9 and shots like yours are going to empty my bank account rather too quickly than I planned I love the way you have captured the moment, in a way that I find difficult with the G9 and its shutter lag. Man, that 5D MkII and Aquatica looks very tempting...

gbrandon 0 Posted September 23, 2009 can you please elaborate on the shot with the dolphins? Beautiful shot.
Bigeye Bubblefish 7 Posted October 6, 2009 can you please elaborate on the shot with the dolphins? Beautiful shot. Thank you very much for all your kind words about those pictures. I was not an easy switch from my Canon G9 to Nikon D90. I basically had to learn from scratch photo basics during that trip. I was using an Ikelite housing with my G9. This was a good housing as it is robust, inexpensive compared to Patima, and it supports external lens (wide angle or macro). I am finally very pleased with that move as the Nikon D90 gave me more than my initial expectations, sharp corners with wide angle shots and control on the high lights. Some requested the camera and the lens settings. I am only using a tokina 10-17. You can find all the camera settings fromt he exif that are visible on my flickr account. http://www.flickr.com/photos/bigeyebubblef...57618353730507/ You need to click on "more details" about the shot. I am preparing my next trip to Coco Island Bonne journée. Damien
marcw 8 Posted October 6, 2009 As a g7, soon to be g11 owner, how different are you pictures comparing the artistic and mechanical point of view of each camera? I alway wanted a dslr, but stayed away for many rea$on$.
Bigeye Bubblefish 7 Posted October 6, 2009 As a g7, soon to be g11 owner, how different are you pictures comparing the artistic and mechanical point of view of each camera? I alway wanted a dslr, but stayed away for many rea$on$. My girlfriend has a G10. There was not much difference between G9 and G10. However, there is a huge gap between G Series and DSLR... for couple of reasons: - the choice of lens & versatility - the quality of the optics - the size of captor - the high lights management I have been playing with her gear lastly. I am so happy with my new Nikon that I could not revert to compact. And, a DSLR is so much precise. There is no comparison. Damien

Merci beaucoup. Vos mots me vont droit au coeur In the same boat... it's whenever you want. This week-end I am heading to the south of france for my very first UW competition "Le Challenge de Marseille". And Oct. 31st I am flying to Coco Island. I have an important appointment with sharks !!!! I am using the 8" dome. No regrets, but I do not have any point of comparison vs. §" dome. It is not too big... your gear is already too big. I am coming from the same gear as you, and you will never regret that move. However, i can not compare vs. Canon, as I never used it UW, but I don't like the philosophy and ergonomic.
