inon z-240 modeling light issues

Recommended Posts

hi guys,

i've just inherited a pair of z-240's and i can't get the modeling lights on either of them to stay off. there's that funky push-in switch, which i have in the 'out' position, and that *sometimes* turns them off, but once i fire the strobes a couple times the lights come back on and stay on until i turn the strobe off. also, if i do have them off in the 'out' position, if i just push the button in slightly, and release it back out, they turn on and won't turn off until i turn off the whole strobe. is there some weird trick or something i'm not quite getting with these thigns? it happens with both strobes too. cheers,

chris

Are the little black caps that cover the slave sensors installed?

one is and one isn't, i'm hard wiring one to the camera and using the other as a slave. would that have an effect on the modeling light? btw ryan, do you guys sell spare diffusers for them? one of the 1/2 stop diffusers is broken.

This is a hold over from Inon's old film camera systems, where the camera housing would use a light signal to activate the focus lights at half press. I don't know why the focus light on the strobe with the covered cap is coming on, but would wager that this is the cause on the uncovered cap.

We do stock diffusers.

Did covering the slave sensors resolve your modeling light issue? I, too, just traded for a pair of Inon's and I'm having the same issue with both focus lights turning on. I did have the cover on both slave sensors, but the cap still has a hole on the top that is allowing light to enter the sensor. I have since covered the hole with some tape, but I haven't tried it out to see if this resolves the problem. I'd like to hear of your results.

In keeps them on. Out should theoretically turn them off but a push on the button will light them for 7 seconds. I have 1 that I have to play with that switch a few times before getting it to shut off permanently.
