Oceans- Epic film teaser trailer

Recommended Posts

Messieurs Jacques Perrin and Jacques Cluzaud's visually incredible $80 million dollar IMAX (well I don't know if it's IMAX anymore since Disney bought the rights) production took the better part of the last 6 years in production. When I first met Jacques in 2003, they were just planning the film, location scouting and taking test shots while shooting the IMAX movie (Voyageur du Ciel et de la Mer for the Magic Carpet Ride for IMAX Poitiers in France) including some incredible aerial shots of superpods of common dolphins. If you are ever in France, Poitiers IMAX ride is worth taking the trip out.

Now in post-production and due for release on Earth Day (April 22) 2010, here is the not so detailed teaser trailer of Océans by Disney (it's more about Disney and not the movie?). Note the last sequence in the trailer and you'll see a glimpse of the best shark predation sequences shot ever (yes better than the Beeb's Nature's great events).

Looks awesome. Totally awesome. Really feels shot for the big screen too - which is just going to be totally breathtaking.

The trailer wouldn't play embedded, here is a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L93MT8VfDfk

Can't wait to see the rest, been to quite a few places in the last few years to hear that the Oceans Team was recently there. They have really gone everywhere and spent the time. Very exciting.

Wow breathtaking! This one I will definitely see on the big screen.

@01:43 is that a trick or just some diver tired of life?

Very steady cam on the whale breach. That must have taken some patience to nail.

Hey Drew,

You sure it's all IMAX? Even the underwater sequences?

Jon

They shot S35 and HDCAM for the underwater sequences. My memory is a bit fuzzy on the latest decision, but I remember the original idea was to be like the Les Peuple Migrateur on IMAX. If Wild Oceans guys can upres even what looks like SD video (terribly I might add! WTF were Luke and Steve thinking? They could've bought so much better stuff) to IMAX, HDCAM and S35 is definitely better. However, I think I remember now that it's just going to be a feature.

It was easy that day. The whale was breaching like 20 times. Christophe is quite the dynamite shooter for a guy under 5'5".

Yes it is. Huge typo that has been corrected. Thanks. I should learn to proof read more often.

I worked on Oceans as one of the DOPs for the coral reef macro sequences. The macro sequences where done on a SONY F35. The underwater sequences where done with a SONY HDCAM F900R3 with customized gamma curves that greatly improved the dynamic range of the F900. 35mm was only used for some above water sequences and high speed underwater shots.

Yes I was very surprised they used S35 for some shots (especially the great white sequences) where newer video cameras would've had higher resolution and better results, with much better efficiency. They just don't develop/telecine the useless rolls. Still quite a lot of waste of film.
