Jules (Helioxfilm) 1 Posted July 25, 2009 (edited) Jules, is that from Dolphin reef? No, it is in Eilat, if you mean under Dolphin reef that one which is in Egypt. I have footage from there as well. There you really need to be lucky. (That is why I did not use "wild" in the title.) Yes, if you refer to the Dolphin reef in Eilat. The still was taken by Tibor Dombovari (this visit was in 2006). loftus 42 Posted July 25, 2009 Very cool Jules; I love how the dolphin looks disappointed at the end when the diver leaves.
Jules (Helioxfilm) 1 Posted July 25, 2009 Very cool Jules; I love how the dolphin looks disappointed at the end when the diver leaves. That is my favorite part as well - so human...
Drew 0 Posted July 25, 2009 Yeah, I remembered the dolphinarium in Eilat. You think the dolphins are human like? So does she Brit marries dolphin Sex in the City got nothing on this girl! I think the Eilat Dolphin Reef still has all of their original imports from the black sea. The Tel Aviv one however had a few deaths. Dolphinariums in general just suck due to bad maintenance and lack of expertise. My figures are fuzzy but I think 12 of the original 43 exported by the Ukrainians survived the first 6 years. If there's one decent dolphinarium, it's Eilat's Dolphin Reef.

Yes, this is a very sensitive issue... As I saw the site, the dolphins could go away if they really would like to. But they have dolphins born at that site. Not far away from there, there is the aquarium, in which humans are going under water in tubes and the coral reef is around them.

SimonSpear 65 Posted July 26, 2009 Nice stuff Jules! I've thought about heading up to the Eilat dolphins a few times, but always stopped myself so far. What were your impressions of the operation there? Did you travel up from Egypt by road? If so hows the boarder crossing there these day? Last time I did that trip I was ahem 'detained' for several hours, although admittedly that was nearly 20 years ago. Cheers, Simon
Jules (Helioxfilm) 1 Posted July 26, 2009 (edited) Thanks, Simon. Well, to get to to Eilat is not always trouble free... Last time my housing and the camera inside was almost confiscated in Tel-Aviv at Ben Gurion, because the officer thought I want to sell my setup in Israel... I had to leave a conditional payment (1000 EUR) unless I go back to him next week, and show, that I will take out my set from the country... However, despite all the inconveniences, it is a very good and nince dive destination. The Eilat shore is very comfortable to dive, you can make unescorted dives with your buddy, in this case you pay almost only for the tanks... You can make 2 hours dive... The Dolphin reef and the other destinations are also very nice and calm. We spotted a cleaning station at 15 meters deep, and we could spend there hours to study, photography and record the cleaning without seeing other divers... It was fascinating. Maybe you know well, but there is the Eilat Shoot-out in every year, organized by David Pilosof. www.eilatredsea.com If you have time this year I strongly recommend to go there, take part in the competition... (They have on-line videoclip competition as well). For the family: they can find good times on the shore - and very important: not only the bottled water can be consumed, normal tap water is safe, not like in Egypt. All in all, this is a relaxing destination, I really like it. You can cross the borders from Egypt as well, Tibor did it without any hassle, would you arrive to Sharm...
