Drew 0 Posted July 26, 2009 With so many whale strikes unreported, it's usually tough to garner evidence that a ship did hit a whale. However, this one ship couldn't deny it hit a fin whale because it was wedged right in the bow. Still, it is not known whether the whale was alive when it was hit etc, and the cruise ship claims to have whale avoidance policies. Talk about road kill! http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/8169309.stm
RWBrooks 26 Posted July 26, 2009 The Captain was unaware that he had a 70ft whale jammed on his bow...... "did you just feel something?"
MikeVeitch 0 Posted July 27, 2009 Here is a photo from the local Vancouver Sun newspaper, shows just how small 70 ft is when compared to a cruise ship.... i would say would be pretty hard to feel that bump Vancouver Sun
Drew 0 Posted July 27, 2009 Yeah those cruise ships are huge monstrosities and they can cruise at 12 knots or more. But that whale should've been picked by the forward depth sonar even if it were too late.
