ID fish help - North Sulawesi

Any help in identifying this 3/4" long fish in 35' of water - No. Sulawesi, Indonesia. Thank you.

I'm thinking it's a juvenile filefish. Maybe a strap-weed filefish, Pseudomonacanthus macrurus. I've seen adults in the Lembeh Strait, and here's a fish I shot at Retak Larry in Lembeh that I guess is the same as yours but a bit older.

 

(disclaimer: i'm no ichthyologist so i might be talking garbage)

Best guess: juvenile Longhorn Cowfish (Lactoria cornuta).

I see what you mean Dan, but the folded-back head spine and long translucent dorsal fin are more filefish-like than cowfish-like.

It is a juvenile filefish/leatherjacket of some sort.

 

Looks very similar to the pygmy leatehrjacket below that we get in southern Australia.
