Sea & Sea Strobes with Ikelite Housing

Recommended Posts

I may be getting an Ikelite housing for the Fujifilm S2 soon. Since I ready have a YS90DX, I am thinking of matching the strobe (may get another one) with the Ikelite housing. James have tried and the TTL does work with the Sea&Sea strobes so it's a pity not to use them. However, it seems like Ikelite doesn't sell the T connector anymore.

Does anyone has one to sell or know where to find one? Ike, any old stock to sell as well? Even if I can only find a single syn cord instead of dual, I think I can set the other on slave and still get TTL, I hope.

Regards

Eric

Hey Ike,

Would you mind also adding some info about why you stopped making the S&S sync cord? I was kind of curious about that myself....

And btw, I found out the other day that S&S has discontinued all support for the YS60 strobe and will now focus only on strobes with a completely detachable sync cord. So... if you have an S&S YS 30, 50, or 60, pick up any spare parts now!!!!!

We got tired of questions about Sea & Sea strobe problems when connected with our "T" connector and other brand housings. The customers blamed us and expected us to make work what we did not sell or manufacture. These strobes have also had sync problems with some Nikon cameras, even saying so in their instructions. We know what we did to make our new strobes compatible with the newest Nikon F5 and Nikon Coolpix digital camera models does not allow them to work with Sea & Sea cameras. We also have contempt for marketing that has made outlandish intensity and angle of coverage claims, making it difficult to compete with such specifications while describing our capabilities honestly. They market good looking strobes without scruples? No problem for us to make a sync cord for their strobes, but we remain hesitant because of the responsibility if they do not work.

Thanks for the explanation Ike. After reading your post, I remembered a conversation I had with another manufacturer who echoed the statements you made about S&S angle of coverage being overstated.

Tks Ike for the clarification.

Perhaps I should just syn cord an Ikelite Substrobe to my Ikelite housing and set my existing Sea&Sea on slave? Would TTL still work on my S2 then?

Not a fair quesion because I do not know how well Sea & Sea strobe performs wireless TTL. First problem is their sensor is aimed at the subject which would not work unless the primary strobe is considerably brighter. That is why we made sensors with a cord so it could be aimed at a camera or another strobe, and not be "blinded" by the strobe to which it is attached............
