XD Amphibicam X3

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

our newest family member has arrived... I teamed up with a friend and voilá... :drink:

It is an awesome masterpiece :uwphotog:

Hopefully we can go under water this Saturday, so I try to make a short first impression review soon.

I hope you don't mind, but I was playing around with the new speed tools in Final Cut Pro 7 :)

Cheers,

Jules

Wow! Looks amazing.

Do the latches have any sort of locking mechanism?

Bravo! You have completely captured the spirit of the opening of the brand new toy. I want one, but I still have to eat. Very nice LCD port! How much does it weigh?

Yes it does have a lanc!!! It is probably the reason why Amphibico created a housing for the EX3 rather than the EX1. Yes this housing is very "imposing". It has a square looks that make it kind of bulky. It's huge and heavy topside (50 pounds + without the camcorder) but perfectly balance and just slightly negative UW. Jean-Claude offered me at "test drive" last week. I will try it next week underwater.

It's very scary when a human being says an inanimate object is part of the family. :)

Family = Wetpixel and UW community - and my family :)

WA = Present time it is not exists. Amphibico will make use of the 16x9inc wide angle lens for EX3 and they will make an extension for it. It will come in the following months...

Weight: the housing without the lead ballast is approx. 17 kg...

While the housing is a good size, it's still weighs less than the Phenom interestingly enough. I was surprised how small and light it feels...

Hey Jules, congrats mate and fantastic clip. :)

Best thing they ever did is to have a LCD window.

External monitors are such a pain in the butt if you ask me.

Look forward to you updates.

Didn't you have an EX1 Jules?

No, I have a V1, like you :) But finally I decided not to buy a housing for it...

A friend of mine and I teamed up in this endeavour, he has an EX3, I have a couple of HID lights... Why buy everything if you can share it? We (unfortunately) are not using these devices 365/365, and not going dive together...

Anyone out there want to share in a housing and camera set-up ... RED maybe ??? ... I'll supply the filming expertise (cough ) and you supply the gear ... Simples ...

Tell you what Dean, with the oodles of cash flow you earn as a small business owner, but with limited travel time on your hands, why don't you buy the RED and housing and ship it all down here. I can then shoot lots of things with it and send you back the raw footage. Once you edit it up with your MBP you can then sell the clips and I will only ask for 50% of the sale price.

Its a great deal for you! You can earn money and you don't even need to get wet or travel long distances on uncomfortable planes..

Deal?

Fantastic idea Mikey ... I've placed the order for a full RED/prime lens kit and will order the housing a.s.a.p ... Can't believe i didn't think of that ... Right i'm off to paint a few walls and shoot some stock on my Hi8 to get the funds back up ...

After dive... These 300 bar double tanks (32 kg) and this housing with camera, lights and weights (approx. 20 kg) made my life very-very heavy...

Hi Jules

Any more updates on your housing, like hows it going and have you got any video cut up to show us?

There is a new 0.75 Aspheric Wide Converter for the Ex1 and Ex3 out from the Canadians now.
