Shrimp ? What shrimp ? Is it alive ?!!

Recommended Posts

I have never seen this Shrimp before in Monterey Break water.

While photoing another shrimp, suddenly this thing caught my eye. It caught my eye because of a couple tiny hermit crab (size of a peanut) start moving in front of me. This shrimp was in front of me all the time but it was the size of 1/4 peanut and I can't really see it. Never seen this before in Monterey Breakwater. Given this experience, I think there are just a lot of micro life around us in Breakwater we just don't notice because we are moving too much. I even saw a tiny squid on my way back, the squid was bout 3 inches long fully stretch. Too bad I was not ready to shoot

Hi dominic - I think it's a Spirontocaris prionota which ranges from the Bering Sea to Baja according to Greg Jensen Pacific coast crab & shrimp boat. Color is quite variable. I can't see the distinguishing character - the arrangement of spines along the carapace - due to the angle so I'm not sure. Take a look at these shots for comparison: http://www.baue.org/images/galleries/v/Fie...caris_prionota/
