Isopod identification, help

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Somebody can help me in this isopod identification?

The picture is from Portugal, Algarve area in the south of the country (Atlantic Ocean).

I have a hunch between Anilocra frontalis or Anilocra physodes.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Best regards,

I'm sorry that no one has been able to help you. The best thing would be to find the address for a local expert in your area. I've been told that these are hard to identify as some of the body parts that have to be examined on the underside.

Hi Leslie,

Thanks for the suggestion.

Anyway regarding this information in the internet, I believe the isopod in the photo is Anilocra frontalis.

"The anilocres are almost always dark brown plain: this is particularly the case of A. frontalis. Others, such as A. physodes, have a dorsal pigmentation often asymmetrical: one half darker or pigmented oriented surface and a half lighter oriented background."

Best regards,
