17-28 Fisheye Zoom for Full Frame for Nikon and Canon

Recommended Posts

Hey full frame users. Here’s a thought, how about creating a petition to Tokina to produce a 17-28mm f3.5-f4.5 Fisheye zoom lens for Nikon and Canon mounts. It was done once before for Pentax, producing the SMCP-F Fisheye Zoom 17-28mm f3.5-f4.5 Lens, and Tokina still holds the plans.

At 17 mm it covers 180 degrees diagonally on a FX (full frame 35mm camera). Being a fish eye zoom it naturally exhibits heavy barrel distortion in particular at the wide end. But, for anyone familiar with Tokina’s 10-17 lens on DX format cameras knows exactly what they are getting.

Yep, good idea indeed, but I don't see it happening before at least half the SLRs out there are full frame

Tokina reps have said to me that they know there is an interest and they are well aware that more and more photographers in general (not uw) are going to FF.

Walt, you should set up a petition page on the Underwater Journal website. I'd sign it straightaway.

I am looking into right now. If Tokina were to make this lens again for Nikon or Canon mount, I would most seriously look at going back to full frame (FX) for underwater.

Providing it were a sharp lens, I'd think it could posses interesting possibilities...

I'm all over it! Have to settle for the 10-17 with TC for now.

"Providing it were a sharp lens, I'd think it could posses interesting possibilities..."

Looking back historically, the Tokina 10-17 fisheye zoom started with the Pentax SMCP-DA 10-17mm f/3.5-4.5 ED fisheye zoom, which Tokina retains the rights to manufacture.

Sharp like the current 10-17, and that fisheye lenses are the easiest to construct when it comes to super wide optics, I think it is deffineitly a high possibility.

Lets get that petition started.
