erikadler 0 Posted September 20, 2003 I took all my photos with a s30 Canon. No strobe etc. Just the canon UW house. The built in man. WB was all I used. Just put up my site. I was Bunaken, Lembeh, Banka and Sipadan. Drop on by and take a look if you feel like nice UW photos. Would be interesting to hear what you have to say! All the best Erik www.eriksworld.org
Paste 0 Posted September 20, 2003 That was some very impressing photos, especially considering your equipment. I would dare say though, that they would have improved from better gear like external strobe etc. Nice job! Paul
Kasey 0 Posted September 20, 2003 Who says you need an expensive camera!= Try a housed dSLR and you will B)
vlad 0 Posted September 22, 2003 Hey, Very, very impressice shots. I have an S50 but I am using a strobe. The water was very clear and most of your shots are macro that's why they are that good. ... I am guessing you were pretty shallow. Don't even try to shoot with the internal flash when you have stuff in the water. ... Us the other mortals, shoot in conditions less than perfect in a lot of cases :-) Good job on the shots though Vlad
craig 0 Posted September 22, 2003 There are some great shots here. Everyone should take some time to look. Great subjects can produce great photos even with modest equipment. Sometimes there's no substitute for heavy artillery, though. Besides, it makes you look good. Thanks for the great shots. I want one of the hairy froggy with the yellow one in the background! No pygmies?
herbko 0 Posted September 22, 2003 I played around with a friend's S30 once. Pygmies would come out really small without additional hardware.
yahsemtough 0 Posted September 22, 2003 Will the pygmys work with the CP5000 though Herb? As for the hairy with the froggie in the background, now that is a shot I too would love. Remember everyone share and share alike when you find it.
craig 0 Posted September 22, 2003 OK, but if I see a bluering it's all mine. BTW, on the size front the coral whip shrimp is an excellent example of a subject that cries out for a higher power macro setup. Of course, pygmies would too. If we shoot pygmies in Lembeh we should know beforehand which dive it will be and can be prepared for it.

Remember everyone share and share alike when you find it. I've never used a CP5000. According to what I've read, the macro focus of that camera is quite good, but you may have trouble getting that close. I'd consider adding a wet macro lens. james 0 Posted September 22, 2003 Guys, Inon makes a multi-element wet-mate diopter that worked great on my Ike CP5000 housing. Cheers James
yahsemtough 0 Posted September 22, 2003 Craig if I find one I will look for you... To show you the pictures in the LCD that is. LOL I'm kidding. I will always share. I find it interesting to see how others will shoot the same subject. Adds to the learning experience for me and the enjoyment of talking about it after the dive. Cybergoldfish 1 Posted September 22, 2003 Craig if I find one I will look for you...To show you the pictures in the LCD that is. LOL I'm kidding. If you see a blue ring octopus I hope you like 'Rugby' lol Great Shots Erik - Point made!
Guest wetpixel Posted September 23, 2003 I took all my photos with a s30 Canon. No strobe etc. Just the canon UW house. The built in man. WB was all I used. Very nice, Erik! I'm curious as to whether the images hold up when you print them out. Without a red filter, do you find a lot of red noise in your resulting shots when viewed at 100%? Cybergoldfish 1 Posted September 23, 2003 Good point too Eric. Quick test: In PS select one of the pictures and in Image menu select autolevels - Red noise, if any jumps out at you!
erikadler 0 Posted September 24, 2003 Since most of you like my shots I have put up a php site with a lot more of my photos! Just click on the All my albums link and a php album will pop up. When I get some more time I will add about a 100 more shots or so that I took from the area this summer. I spent 2 months diving the area so I got lots of photos! www.eriksworld.org To Vlad: I most of the pictures are from Lembeh taken about at 10-15m but some of them are down to 30m and the color still was somewhat OK! To Craiq and everybody else who wants pygmies! I got pygmies too! Lots of em! Ill put them up in the next day or so. To Echeng: The pictures look really good on film. The one of the of the 2 Ornate ghost pipefish is now a A3 on my wall and it look awesome! To Cybergoldfish: Thx! “Who says you will take grate photos with and expensive camera!” www.eriksworld.org
Guest wetpixel Posted September 24, 2003 A tip: Use the "http: //" button when composing a message to make real links. OR, you can just type the http: // (no space between the "http" and the "//") in front of the url to make it link automatically, like this: http://echeng.com I went in and edited your first post to make it a real link. erikadler 0 Posted September 24, 2003 Thx echeng! OK then I try it one more time! Give me a day or so to throw the pygmies into my gallary map in the link "All Albums". Got to say php really makes it a lot more easy to make a Album! PS thx guys/gals for sharing your photos with the rest of us! I really enjoy learning and looking at them! Ben 1 Posted September 25, 2003 Hi Erik, nice to meet you again on this site !! The digital underwater photography world is so small !! PS : Erik and I met in Lembeh Strait... we went diving in the same spots for one week. Some of our shots are more or less exactly the same (same subject, same angle...) with different combos... which can be interesting to compare !! http://2a2b.free.fr/ Sulawesi.... erikadler 0 Posted September 25, 2003 Wow the world is really a small place! How you doing! Got to say your stobe (if I remember right a Ikelite 125) really made the shots look good! I have to get one of them. Who knows we might just meet again! I have redone my page with a php album so there are a lot of "new" pictrures that I have put up now. They are under the link "All Albums" Say hi to your wonderful wife from Eva and me! All the best - Erik http://www.eriksworld.org
Ben 1 Posted September 25, 2003 Thanks Erik for your kind words. Yes you're right, the strobe is a DS 125, working in "TTL like" using a sensor. I have got to say I share what has been said before : you probably did the best of what can be done with your rig ! And I can say why, because I saw you shooting : you (and Eva of course) are EXTREMELY patient. You used to perform a manual WB adjustment using a white waterproof board before EVERY single shot... which took a long time to take a picture. I am sure most of A30 users do not, but looking at the results, it's worth doing it ! Of course Sulawesi is a fantastic place to proceed like this, cause most of the subjects there do not move : you've got hours to take a good shot of a nudi, a frogfish or a pygmee!! Maybe you could shoot RAW format, and do it afterwards with the RAW converter... but you would loose a lot of disk space on your memory card... that's an "arbitrage"! Once again, nice job !! PS : are you going back to South East Asia one of these days
Ben 1 Posted September 30, 2003 Hi Erik, just a quick one : you were talking about buying a strobe.... here is a good article which can help you in your choice : http://www.digitaldiver.info/images/strobe...rticlescrn2.pdf Cheers
