New Dive Areas in Indonesia

Recommended Posts

Looking for new areas to dive in Indonesia. I've been to Komodo, Raja Ampat, Wakatobi, Bali, Derawan, Lembeh, Halmahera & Togian. Need a new place to explore. Mostly into muck but also enjoy good reefs. Any suggestions? Thanks.

It's true that Timor L'este is quite under explored, Peter. But I'd try Ambon, Flores, Alor and Wetar. Plenty of great muck sites along that way.

Oops - I forgot about Ambon. Dove that & Banda Sea last year. Probably doing Ambon on next trip. Will look into Flores & Timor. Some places you see the same critters, just in a different setting.

Question for jcclink: Of all the places you have dived in Indonesia, which areas are your favorite(s)? Thanks.

Drew ,

These are all favourites for me, but really couldn't be describes as new given they are all pretty well on the beaten track

I dunno about that Peter, some sites see a dive boat maybe 4 times a year. Timor L'este has quite a bit of destroyed coastline too. I was suppose to dive the MPA but didn't. May try it next year. But you don't go to TL for macro

Look at "Triton Bay", far south coast of Papua.

Described by Burt Jones as "The last of the best places to dive"

It's good to hear that Triton Bay is described as "the last of the best places to dive".....because.....I'll be diving there in less than 3 weeks!!! Something I have been looking forward to for a while now...

Pulau Weh - north Sumatra. It doesn't get near the acclaim as the eastern region - but I spent a month there and had some of the best diving of my life. The little things are there - but there's something big on almost every dive... We had daily manta action, schools of 40+ devil rays, reef sharks and threshers to name a few.
