Sub Nate 0 Posted December 9, 2009 Hey I have two questions, I'm trying to set up a system for when I go to St. Lucia in April, I've narrowed it down to the canon hf s11 or hf s10. I'm wondering if the 200 dollar difference is worth getting the S11? and my second question is does anyone use the Ikelite housings, I would love the gates housing but the 2600 for the gates and the 800 for the inkelite. I know I probably wouldn't have all the functions with the ikelite but at least I would have a camera I could take underwater till I can afford the gates? So I would just like your opinions on the Ikelite housings, and the s10 vs. s11.

So I would just like your opinions on the Ikelite housings, and the s10 vs. s11. The biggest difference between the S10 and S11 is the S11 has a larger internal memory; 64gb vs the S10's 32gb, and the S11 has more advanced image stabilization built into it. This image stabilization is causing minor problems with optics, but is not a problem with the S10 or S100. The S11 was not available when I bought the S100, but even now I would have still chose the S100. I personally bought the S100, simply because I am not a big fan of internal memory and would rather just buy more cards and have the ability to simply use a card reader to transfer footage, rather than use the camera. Mike L 0 Posted December 10, 2009 The advanced image stabilization on the HF S11 is definitely nice, but it is only good if the user is shooting a lot topside, then the HF S11 is a good option. However, it is important to note that when the HF S11 camera is used in either the Bluefin or Gates housing, the Image Stabilization must be turned off to avoid vignetting. catfish 0 Posted December 10, 2009 (edited) Mike or Joe - Please correct me if I am wrong. The HF S11 has two options for the image stabilizer: dynamic or standard. When using the Gates housing, my understanding is that you can use the image stabilization set to standard without any vignetting. If you set it to dynamic then you get vignetting. I will be using this camera topside more often than underwater, so the dynamic image stabilization appeals to me, otherwise I would buy the HF S100 and a bunch of memory cards. Mike L 0 Posted December 10, 2009 You are correct, its the Dynamic Image Stabilization, which is the one people are most interested in.
