Strobe Review

Recommended Posts

The only downside is the use of the strobe above water to show comparison shots.

Now, if those could be tested in a pool with the appropriate equipment...

I agree that this is a major factor/flaw in the testing. Strobes that have a curved front window are designed to throw light underwater, not above it (where the index of refraction is lower). This could be one reason why the DS125 did not appear to fare well in the tests.

Cheers

James

Only if it was an indoor pool with perfectly even lighting could this have delivered more reliable results. I thought about this, but variable cloudiness could skew results. I did the tests in a dimly lit room, giving all the strobes exactly the same conditions.

Thanks, Jeff, let's get together at DEMA to discuss.

I'm still trying to figure out a way to regulate a pool environment so that all the factors are controlled (ambient light, water clarity, etc.)

I would love to, Matt, but I won't be able to attend DEMA this year. I'm going to Miami a couple days after for our Digital Dive In, but an upheaval in my real job a couple months ago makes it impossible for me to get there in time for DEMA.
