Subal w/ S2 Pro will not Sync Flash???

Recommended Posts

Picked up a used Subal for my S2 Pro from someone I know takes good care of the product.

I have 2 bodies and 2 SB105's. I can not get the sync light to come on the S2. I only have one sync cord to try, but I did try both ports. The same setup used to workin my Ikelite..... The connectors for the strobe in the housing is set to TTL...

Thoughts???

Have you tried switching the hot shoe to manual and firing?

Drew,

When you say switching to manual, do you mean in the subal housing??? Confused :)

A update.

I went to helix in Chicago and we verified multiple sync cords, SB-105's and bodies. The camera will sync with a land flash, as well as the internal flash. The previous owner used Ikelite flash's...

Again, they will fire, just not sync or give me a flash ready

HELP!

They should sync with the SB105. You need to have all 5 pins/wires in the hotshoe connected and you need to have the hot-shoe cable plugged into the TTL socket in the housing, not the manual socket.

If it doesn't work, you have bad wiring between the hotshoe and the bulkhead.

Cheers

James

If the housing does not have selectable TTL or Manual sockets for the hotshoe, then I think the previous owner may have pulled some of the pins and fired manually. If I remember correctly, that was how it was done before Subal implemented the selectable configuration. Check the pins on the hotshoe. If 3 are missing, then you'll have to replace the hotshoe to have TTL.

Drew,

I just checked that, and it does have the selectable config. It is set on TTL (5 pin). The previous owner shot w/ DS-125's from Ike, which are Analog TTL compatible...

Fred @ backscatter is stumped as well... I was hoping not to have to send the housing in for repair :)

The Ike DS-125 strobes are also digital. Ask the old owner what mods he did. He may have cut the ready light circuit to make them work. Such as by de-soldering a connection or cutting a wire. You could test for continuity using a volt-ohmmeter or VOM.

I suggest reading through this thread to better understand dSLR flash synch issues:

Ok,

I think this one is solved... Fred @ Backscatter (such a great guy) has me ohm out the pins.... Looking closely, the blue wire (sync) was severed where it wraps around the plastic clamp right before it connects to the circuit board....

I think its a bad design, but oh well... It is going back to him as I dont want to mess with soldering a cut wire

Hopefully that will fix it

Thx to all that responded....
