I recently got a G11 and a WP-DC34 and I want to get a strobe for it. I was hoping to spend $100-$200. I have found a few options, but as i have not used an underwater strobe before, im not sure about compatibility. My three options are: S&S YS25a, S&S YS-15 auto, and Olympus UFL-1. Does anyone know weather these will work with my G11? Or does anyone have any suggestions of strobes that will?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanx

This site will give you the specs for all three.

Check out the guide numbers and coverage.

The Olympus has tty but I got no idea how the Olympus does it magic. So is it any good? but the other 2 are fully auto, while the oly is only ttl.

after careful consideration, i am thinking of getting either the S&S YS-27DX, the S&S YS-110a , Intova ISS-2000, or the Inon D-2000. I like the Inon strobe the best. The Intova strobe is cheap but has decent specs. Does anyone know weather its any good?

My biggest concern is with arms (accept the Intova strobe). Would Inon and S&S strobes work with the same arms? Any suggestions as to a good arms for about $100 - $150?

Thanx for the advice

Inon and Sea and Sea strobes will both work with Ultralight arms, just require the appropriate strobe adapter. For an Ultralight arm set, with the tray and handle, expect to spend in the range of $200 or so. Well worth it! These items will go with you for all future systems as well.

Just an aside but I was speaking to my local u/w camera shop during the week and their reccomendation was get a wide angle adaptor as (for the diving that I do - Red Sea, Oman, Mexico) the ambient light is enough and a wide angle adaptor will allow me to get closer, removing the 'amount' of water in the way and thus improve colours..sort of made sense (but of course, after I had bought my strobe!)

I'm back in 2 weeks so will show you the fruits of my labours :island:

bubbzilla and tony,

Check out my BLOG posting for what a pair of the Ikelite AF35 strobes can do.

Sensor mimicing the TTL flash from many cameras is a s close as you can get to TTL without the hassle of cords.

Paired with any wide lens to get you closer or shooting fish / macro it is a really good compact solution.

Hi, I was hoping someone might have some experience with the intova iss 2000 strobe the OP mentioned?

Google isn't turning up any good reviews, which is surprising as the iss2000 seems to be one of the most affordable strobe setups. I can tell it has multiple fire modes, eg you can set it to fire after the camera's ttl flash, but it looks to me like it does not do the ttl flash itself?

anyway, this thread is a bit old / I don't want to hijack it, so I will go ahead and post a new thread about the iss2000 in particular.

new post (#35956)

Thanks!
