frisco 0 Posted January 30, 2010 To the best of my knowledge is a Lybia tessellata, known as boxer crab or pon-pon crab. In which dive site did you spot this critter ??? Was it in the shallows of Angel Window ??? All the Best .... Francesco
MikeVeitch 0 Posted January 30, 2010 I recognize that one Still think its just an albino boxer
Leslie 0 Posted January 30, 2010 Unusual. First, because Lybia tesselata are never covered with floc with that - they don't have the hairs that decorator crabs use to attach their camouflague. Second, the color pattern - granted, it's very hard to see - seems wrong. There are several species in the same genus & in other genera that also carry anemones. Do you have other images of it Maxtom? It would be very useful to see it from different angles. Found it - Lybia caestifera. maxtom 0 Posted January 30, 2010 Is this one any better? I can try to make some close-up crops (but all the photos are frontal) of any area of interest.
Leslie 0 Posted January 30, 2010 Thanks! The color pattern is much clearer and overall it matches very nicely the images of Lybia caestifera on that page I linked & elsewhere on the web.
