Advice Roatan first week on May which shore North or South?

Between April 30 and May 7 I have a brake. So I am planning a diving trip. Most likely Roatan. This is my question during this time of the year which shore will be less windy?

Hey the Lonely Planet Guide says the North West coast will be the less windy. However nothing beats real practical experience from real divers.

Right off the top of my head I don't remember which side Bay Island Beach Resort or Anthony's Key Resort is on (I know they are right beside each other) but I have been there in May and the water was calm and the diving really good on that side of the island in the spring. I just like the overall diving conditions on the BIBR and AK side more than the CoCoview side.

Thanks a lot you just answered my question as good as it is! Bay Island and Ak are in the Northwest shore no wind there on May that is what the book said. CocoView is on the South shore. So do really think that diving sites on the Northwest shore are better. Good that clears any idea about going to Fantasy Island.

Haven't dove the north side, but the south side is pretty good.

I think it is all about perspective. Everyone on here will have an opinion and keeping with that...here is mine We always stay at AKR when we go. One trip, the weather was so bad we dove the south side all week. Bused over all week. Slightly off topic on same trip...this was before the airport in Roatan had radar and we ended up having to stay an extra 2 days before the weather would clear enough for planes to come and go. AKR was wonderful to us and took care of everyone there and no extra charge and other places on the island did not do this - so they got my loyalty.

 

We have dove both sides during the years and both have their pros and cons. I personally prefer the north side, but always love a ride over to dive Mary's Place - which is a must do dive.

 

I think that the north side has less divers and the south side has the cruise ship pier.

 

AKR has the marine institute and a great place to swim or dive with dolphins if interested.

I went to Cocoview Roatan in August. Weather was good during the day, a little windy and rainy at night.
