rrweather 0 Posted February 12, 2010 Anyone know of ANY review on the HD Wave housing? ANY video posted? The Aquatica rep told me they sold out of their first run. I was hoping someone that purchased one could share with us. Thanks.
Eville 0 Posted February 14, 2010 Anyone know of ANY review on the HD Wave housing? ANY video posted? The Aquatica rep told me they sold out of their first run. I was hoping someone that purchased one could share with us. Thanks. I just got mine and I can tell you a little bit. I only got one dive in today (51 degrees) so I wasn't able to get any video from it. Aquatica puts in the instructions that the housing should be first taken to 30 to 50 ft w/o a camera to seat the o ring on the lens to ensure it doesn't flood. I will be sure to post video next month when I go to palm beach. My initial impressions are that it was worth every penny. The housing feels like a brick above the water but becomes very manageable underwater. I have mine set up w/ TLC arms and Intova super nova lights. It is easy to access the features of the sony camera, which is why I chose this housing. All of your controls are on the left (including zoom) through the menu, except for the photo button, which is on top of the housing. There are only two things I don't care for. First, the built in flip up red lens is a bit too close to the camera. It scrapes across the front of the camera some times. Second, you can only use the standard battery not the larger one. If you have any specific questions let me know, I'd be happy to answer them. I also had a hard time finding any information prior to my purchase.
rrweather 0 Posted February 14, 2010 Thanks for the reply. That is more information than I've been able to find anywhere else. I will be anxiously awaiting to hear about your experience and to see your videos. I have about 5 weeks before I need to order a camera/housing before I head to Belize. Hopefully by then, I will hear more from owners. If you get to use it any more before your trip, please let us know. Thanks again.
rrweather 0 Posted February 17, 2010 FWIW, I inquired about the Aquatica housing for the Canon HFS10/11 and was told the housing is not going to be produced because of the lack of a market for the housing. If Aquatica does come out with a housing for Canons, I was told it would be for the new HFS20/21 line.
Mike L 0 Posted February 18, 2010 Check out the Gates HF S10/S11 housing. Compact, VERY ergonomic, easy to use, a very reasonably priced WA port with excellent quality. I was a late adopter of the HFS series cameras, but after much experience with the camera now, and after playing with it in a few housings, the Gates system is the best bang for the buck.
