Cal 5 Posted February 14, 2010 Hey Crew Heres a demo piece from a new projet i'm working on. Utlimately I want to push my photoshop skills to the max and incoporate a full underwater sinking ship scene - think barrels, nets, ropes, wood and sailors all heading down to Davy Jones Locker Something different! Cheers Cal
MikeVeitch 0 Posted February 14, 2010 another great idea Cal... morbid, but cool!
Drew 0 Posted February 14, 2010 It certainly is different. I just wouldn't put it on a site where there are naval memorials and what not
stewsmith 14 Posted February 14, 2010 All you need now is a few oceanics in the frame having a little nibble. Great idea Cal, even if it is a little "dark". Stew
Alex_Mustard 0 Posted February 14, 2010 Nice idea. Would be complemented better by more moody lighting (i.e. beams of light) which would also give the image depth.
Cal 5 Posted February 14, 2010 Thanks guys! Stew - I played around with a few sharks but couldnt find anything that fits , But yeah, that could be awesome. Alex- I'm working on that now, just rendering the lighting using lens flares and radial blurs in overlay / screen blending modes. getting some cool results but nothing realistic yet. decosnapper 34 Posted February 14, 2010 What this image really needs - above anything else mentioned so far - is something to identify the copyright owner/creator. Once separated from this thread (and I have a copy on my PC to check if metadata existed but has now been deleted) the image becomes an Orphan Work that anyone who finds it could use it for whatever purpose they see fit, including misrepresentation or promoting a cause you do not share or agree with. And the subject is, in my view, absolutely ripe for misrepresentation. It's not law to use an Orphan here in the UK yet, but our parliament will vote on it soon. If you want to know why this is such a bad thing in detail read the Orphan Works thread that is on Wetpixel.
james 0 Posted February 14, 2010 Very cool Cal - and I agree that the photo could be augmented quite well. It's a bit spooky and a sensitive subject - but what isn't these days. Cheers James
Cal 5 Posted February 14, 2010 Thanks guys! Decosnapper - ok you won me over. I'll watermark it! Cal
rbailey 0 Posted February 15, 2010 If you don't like the more normal copyright check out what Mr One Light, aka Zack Arias does http://www.zarias.com/ He sutbly hides his copyright in the picture, on the side of building etc. In Gulf Photo Plus, above red traffic light. In Black Rob, above guys right sholder. In Running to stand still, on parking meter. p.s. Keep up the stunning images. Cheers, Richard B.
asmigel 0 Posted February 19, 2010 This is very cool Cal. I always like art that makes a viewer feel something. A lot of people have the fear of drowning, so this piece is certainly going to make a lot of people feel something! It also reminds me of the video Ric Frazier did for Diesel jeans, the jean pool. http://www.frazierproductions.com/films/2 Great work ~Abi
davichin 18 Posted February 21, 2010 I think it is great! On the same line as Abigail, I think controversial art ideas are positive for the artist (just remember things like Doubilet´s nudi shoot). I would make sure that with the add ons (barrels etc...) it doesn´t get a hint of humour, as it would ruin the shoot´s dark impact IMHO
abbottd2 0 Posted February 25, 2010 I wont be viewing your stuff before a trip, but it is cool!
Cal 5 Posted February 27, 2010 Thanks guys! It is very similar to Ric's video - thats really cool stuff! Cal
