JFS 0 Posted March 3, 2010 Hello. My Phenom has started to act up. The right control trigger does not activate the record / standby. Has anyone had this problem and fixed it? Will I need a ,new handle from Amphibico? Thanks
wagsy 0 Posted March 4, 2010 MMM bummer....sounds like you may have to send in your hand piece to get fixed. Have a look at the wires coming from it inside the housing that go to the small circuit board. Make sure the vary Zoom and Focus Wheels are not on abit as that can cause some funny things to happen. Its easy to take out and Fed Ex to Amphibico if you are up to it. http://www.hdvunderwater.com/phenomhandle.html

What happen is it short-circuit the chip inside the handle (under the buttons). The only solution is to put a new chip. Usually Amphibico will repair this at low cost. But if this ever happen to you while on a trip, rather than loosing the use of your housing, when the problen happens in the right handle (all the major commands are on the right handle), you can actually switch the chip from the left handle into the right handle. The chips are identical. You then loose the left handle buttons but that is minor compare to loosing the use of the right handle. I did that on a liveaboard in the Red Sea and it saved the shoot. I think it is a rare problem. Seen this once in ten years and four Amphibico housings (two PD-170 and two Phenom Z1). Pierre
wagsy 0 Posted March 7, 2010 Hi Pierre Thats a neat trick, was it an easy thing to do in the field?
Neptune7 0 Posted March 7, 2010 Hi Pierre Thats a neat trick, was it an easy thing to do in the field? Yes it is pretty easy to do. All you need are a couple of small screwdrivers (Phillips and flathead) and a needle to remove the small O rings. It took me less than 10 minutes to do and I am not a technical genius. It was one of my friend who suggested that and since I had nothing else to try before admitting to dive without my video camera, something I cant do, it work and saved my trip. It was a lucky call and it worked. Pierre

That is definately a great idea if I need a quick fix! I already ordered my new grip and will send in my old one for repair. When I dissasembled it, I did find a tiny amount of water just where the power buttton is. Thanks all!
wagsy 0 Posted October 27, 2011 Hi, thought I would give my Phenom some TLC and see if I can get the spare faulty hand piece going. What I found was it looks like a spec of salt water can get in through the trigger and short out the tiny vertical board that the micro trigger switch is on. I could taste the salt on it :-) As stated by Pierre before, it looks like you can swap left and right hand piece boards to get you out of trouble as last resort. I have yet to work out how to take the trigger button off the hand piece to inspect the orings. ? Its a great housing and I love taped cameras for their ease of archiving, already lost a drive this year with data on it without any warning what so ever. DSLR's shoot fantastic quality but you are limited to the kind of shots one can get, I hope the Phenom will keep going for some years for me as even though there are better quality systems out there, the old HDV 3 CCD FX1 is not too far behind. Here are some images to help others. EDIT: After spraying the mirco trigger switch with some CRC, the hand piece all works again. Anyone know how to take the hand piece trigger button off to check that oring on the trigger shaft itself? Dont want to break it.
AndyZ 0 Posted July 14, 2014 Hi all, I have similar problem with my Amphibico Dive buddy 2 HD. During recent dive I realized that the trigger button (right side arm) is stuck in "pressed" position. I cannot on/off the camcoder or shoot at all, really bad! Has anybody some idea how to fix it? Any advice will be much appreciated. I would need to fix it quickly before next trip. thanks in advance, Andy
