Sea Slug ID please - a type of Doris?

Recommended Posts

Found at Critter Corner last Friday, 25ft of water, hiding under a piece of loose sponge (flotsam? I always get flotsam / jetsam mixed up!). Doris?

The critter was approx 1 inch in size, and seemed relatively unbothered by me, but headed back into the shade quite quickly.

Thanks!

Kay Wilson,

The rhinophores are rolled & there's no sign of gills so maybe it's a side-gill slug. I'll check when I get home unless Anne or someone else can help out.

Don't flotsam & jetsom refer to man-made objects? So unless it was Sponge Bob's terrestrial cousin Sponge Bath it was just a loose piece.

Try this one -- Pleurobranchus atlanticus (or crossei if you prefer the ids in the Caribbean Sea Slugs book by Valdes, Hamann, Behrens, DuPont) - http://www.seaslugforum.net/showall/pleuatla It has the same white markings on the tubercles that your slug has.
