Pre-flash Inon D2000 and Advanced Circuit Cancel

Recommended Posts

I have read my manual and im still not sure what technique to use when diving with my G10 and inon D2000

ok so i have a G10 that does not fire a pre-flash when you have it in manual mode and also a Inon D2000

just for all the people like me out there that need it spelled out to them.. can someone answer these questions for me. 03.gif

1)

So when you are in modes (on the strobe ) STTL , STTL Low it does not matter what setting (magnet in or out) you have on the ACC (Advanced Cancel Circuit) it will expect a pre flash correct.? Ie the strobe ignores the ACC setting for STTL and STTL low?

2)

The magnet in or out will only affect the flash when you have the strobe in manual and auto settings correct?

3) so on the same dive with the magnet in I could do the following and correct flash exposure would work every time.

Shoot in modes (on the camera ) Tv, Av and P I use STTL on the strobe.

Shoot in Manual (on the camera) I turn the strobe to manual also.

4)

what do you think will happen if i put the camera in Av, Tv or P and shoot with the magnet in turning the ACC (Advanced Cancel Circuit) on.

Any help would be great with this one.. im going on a liveaboard in a week and want to shoot in manual .. but dont want to waste any dives testing the ACC in out out.. :o

Thanks

Chris

You should be able to check it out on land: if a preflash fires the Inon and it's set to full power (shoot a test subject about 15' away), the image will be dark unless ACC is working. I don't understand the problem with a G10, tho': if there's no preflash, the Inon should just fire with the internal flash. ACC is designed for manual strobe settings with cameras that have a preflash at all times, I think. This is about how the strobe fires, not the camera's flash metering: in S-TTL the Inon mimics the behaviour of the internal flash, in Manual it's simply triggered by the internal flash and fires at the power set on the strobe. Whether you use S-TTL or Manual, don't expect every shot to work: you will need to try different strobe settings and different strobe positions, maybe even different strobe - subject separation. To some extent every time you shoot, you are testing the strobe settings...

Old question but for future reference: I believe D2000 works with respect to ACC the same way as S2000. In that case, installation of the magnet actually has an effect even in STTL mode, i.e. "The circuit reproduces the camera’s pre-flash, but at higher intensity than the camera flash. This creates optimum underwater performance, faster recycle time for the camera flash, quicker follow-up shots, and longer camera battery life. To accomplish this, the INON emits a pre-flash up to 22 times stronger than the camera pre-flash. The camera 'sees' this strong pre-flash, judges the subject to be close to the camera, and decreases the power (duration) of the main flash by the camera. The minimal main flash by the camera results in faster recycle time of the camera flash, and extended camera battery life." (from https://reefphoto.com/blogs/lighting/selecting-the-proper-settings-for-inon-strobes-1).

If I understand correctly, you might want to avoid the magnet in case you expect to shoot in STTL.
