What bag can you reccomend

Recommended Posts

Having now expanded my 'UW rig' (only baby kit compared to most of you) need to find a suitable bag for carrying it 'hand luggage' on planes, and also to & from Dive Boats.

It's compact based so be nice to know if anybody has come across suitable bags (Peli cases out as 1400 would be needed and that is too big)

kit consists of :

F31 (in it's housing)

Fuji Remora Strobe

incl. flexy arm and tray

Fantasea focusing light

Fantasea BigEye supplementary lens.

welcome ideas

I'm a firm believer in not drawing attention to any valuables. Wrap it well and pack it in your normal hand baggage, ideally a roll along so that you can look nonchalant whilst carrying the extra weight.

Osprey,

i use for a similar rig (Fuji E900 + Ikelite housing, Inon S-2000-Fley arm and tray, Inon WA-Lens) a Peli 1450 case.

It's small, look "innocent" and very sturdy and fit's everywere.

To bring it to/from the dive boat i use a "hard" cooler, they damp impacts quite well, can be filled with water to store tha cam and

insultate the camera somehow from sudden thermic excursions.

i personally am a fan of kata and lowepro. for my big UW rig, i use a kata 195 (its c-195 or cc-195 something like that). its designed for large video cameras but perfectly fits a UW rig, with the housing and dome port upright, not flat, making the most efficient use of space. its also carry on size just barely (i once had someone at security question it, but a more senior person then said it was ok). you can also get this little kata dolly that fits in it to wheel it around. works nicely. very hard and solid for a 'soft' case.

last time i travelled i fit a housing (no handles, those went in checked luggage), 9.25" dome upright, macro port, 2 inon strobes, 2 dive computers, large viewfinder, external hard drive and a heafty nikon 300/2.8 lens. my 2 bodies & lenses went in a smaller 'personal item' sized bag. kata does make really solid stuff. lowepro is good too. cheers,
