Remote Strobe Practice

Recommended Posts

Finally found a used Ikelite slave so I took it to the local quarry today for some practice. First off, I'm going to need a longer extension cord to place the slave where I want it. And I need to rig up a tripod/clamp for the strobe. But since I got this yesterday and didn't have time to get either, I used what I had, one strobe to trigger and the slave. Not the most exciting of subjects but I think this technique will work well once the wreck diving season starts here next month.

Done -- deleted duplicate.

Nice shots! I I think the remote strobe is working very well.

How are you triggering the strobes?

Via optical slave using the Ikelite DS Manual Controller.

Nice. Did you mean, the remote slave is connected with a (long) coord to a ikelite DS Manual Controller that in turn is triggerd by the lash on your housing, or?

In that case where did you put the trigger in these images, is it sensitive enough to put hidden with the slave?

The toilet works best for me too. But I like all three. Great stuff and I am looking forward to seeing your results when get on your normal wrecks. I am sure you already have lots of ideas for shots.

Here are a few of my remote strobes, most of which I know many of you have probably seen before, but may provide some ideas for those wanting to try these shots:

The slave is triggered by another Ike on a long arm on

my housing. Since I don't have a third strobe yet triggering the slave and providing any foreground illlumination is challenging. The slave seems sensitive but it does need to see the triggering strobe in a direct line of sight, making hiding the slave half the creative challenge. Alex posted a great thread explaining this awile back. I'm on a mobile now so I can't post it.

The toilet shot made me laugh. Nice work and something I want to try more of next trip that has conditions that allow for it to be tested out.

Cheers

Sorry no text on that last one! Andy, I have shots of the the three same subjects. Why don't they look like those? Must be the dust on my sensor.

The toilet shot differently shows some original thinking! Can't wait to see what you do with a real subject.
