subpilotpaul 0 Posted May 2, 2010 I'm planning a trip to Indonesia and was wondering the best spot for soft corals and pygmy sea horses? Any suggestions?
BigJeff 11 Posted May 2, 2010 Raja Ampat had the highest number of Pygmys I've ever seen - but they can be found in many (if not all) of the diving areas. Soft corals also good in RA.
Canuck 3 Posted May 2, 2010 Only place I've been in Indonesia was a recent trip to Raja Ampat with a couple days at the start in North Sulawesi. The soft corals were awesome and we saw plenty of pygmy seahorses. My Indonesia Gallery is online. There is a Wetpixel post about my trip.
tdpriest 115 Posted May 2, 2010 (edited) I've only dived in Lembeh and Raja Ampat, but Raja Ampat would seem to fit the bill: http://wetpixel.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=30059 The link to my trip slideshow has been replaced with this one: http://www.flickr.com/photos/timsdiving/se...57617638465058/ You might want to get hold of a copy of Burt Jones and Maurine Shimlock's book, Diving Indonesia's Raja Ampat, ISBN 978-979-1173-06-3 Tim Edited May 2, 2010 by tdpriest

TimG 62 Posted May 4, 2010 Until about 10 days ago I was the dive manger at KBR in the Lembeh Straits. The house reef there has both yellow and pink Bargibanti. There are pink Bargibanti on lots of sites on the north-west side of the Straits (eg Nudi Retreat 1 and 2) and in the north-east (eg Batu Sandar 3). There were Denise pygmy seahorses on Nudi Retreat 2 for a while but we hadn't seen them more recently. We also saw Pontohis once in a while. You can't go wrong in the Lembeh Straits.....
