Aquatica A7D problems?

My apologies to forum moderator but I felt obligated to start a new thread.

This aftrenoon I tryied to assemble my housing to prepare everything for tomorrows dive and I had big problems. First video button is slacking, then the mode dial knob (M, P, Tv, Av) is not working at all and I don`t have any idea how to fix it, and major problem is that knob which is regulating F- number is not working because inside housing there is a big gap between mechanism and housing so the mechanism wheel can`t lie down on camera wheel... I am sending pictures so you can see. I dont know if there is a piece missing but I did not get any spare part with my housing! Luckly for me I managed to fix this problem and inserted small rubber between mechanism and housing! Now it is working, but there is still 2 problems left.

 

Please if you had similar problems with your A7D reply to this tread!

 

 

I am very dissapointed in housing and I am afraid to take it underwater because I`m scared for leaks. I will test the housing first without camera! I payed a lot of money for something that don`t work propertly!

Sorry your having so many problems Alex. Which Video button is a problem? The Live view switch or the Video Start/Stop? Sounds like an alignment issue, just to make sure, do you have a LCD protector on the camera? Did you take off the viewfinder eye piece? Either of these will hold the controls out of position.

 

I really hope you get this figured out, I know how frustrating it is to be all excited about a new rig and then have problems.

I agree with Steve's diagnosis. If you didn't remove the eyepiece then it will hold the housing back away from your camera far enough to not engage the controls. Given the snap locks of many housings, you will have enough leverage to force the housing closed even with the eyepiece on.

I have the some issue like u with my nauticam housing. Like Steve say.... After I romove eyepiece and LCD protector it work great. Try it out

First thing I checked is the eyepiece, and it was removed, as for the LCD protector I dont have one, so I really don`t have any idea!All I know it is NOT working!

Steve the problem is with the lever that changes video/camera mode!

 

One more thing...Am I crazy or you can`t put camera with open flash inside the housing???

As mentioned, drop Aquatica an email, they are usually responsive and Jean is often around the boards. The Canon flash may not have to be fully raised to work since it will fire without being fully raised (this is for fiber optic triggering) and other housings, such as one of the first SeaTool for the Rebel, did not have the flash fully raised. What did the instruction manual say on the issue?

Hi Alex,

It seems that you are missing the spring that keeps tension on the gear - this explains the lack of aperture controls.

The second issue you describe sound like the camera is not getting full seated. A possible explanation is that the lens release control has not been pulled out or is in the incorrect position.

Make sure the base plate catch is in the secured position.

Hi Alex, i'm out on vacation , so sorry for the delay, I am back at the office on the 25th and will gather the assembly staff to take a look at this, it should be smooth as butter and fall into place fairly easy. my connection here is lame so I'll have to address this on my return, shoot me a e-mail at work and i<ll pick it up from there tuesday.

I apreciate for all your help, pmooney than you for the pictures! I have contacted Jean and he was very helpfull and of assistance like always. My dealer where I bought the housing forgot to check and test the housing before shipping and he promised he will fix everything within few days! He deeply apologises!

 

As for the strobe I was under impression that camera with full open strobe can enter in housing but unfortunately it can`t. It can be opened only 30%!

If you forget to put your flash up before the dive, you can always turn the mode dial to full auto and then cover the port or point towards a dark area, it will then pop up automatically.

I used to do that but found that especially with a (fast) macro lens, it's pretty hard to get the flash to pop up. There is a better (easier) way to do it. Just go to the Flash Control menu (first tab in the menus) -> Built-in flash func. setting -> Hit the "Picture Style" button to "Test Flash"; this will automatically pop up the flash and do a test flash fire.

Yeah, 7D. When you say it doesn't work, do you mean the flash does not open or you can't find the option in the menus?

 

I see it in both Av and P mode. Should be there in the other modes as well.

 

Again, hit menu, first tab on the left, Flash Control (on the bottom of the screen in Av mode) -> Built-in flash func. setting -> Test flash firing (on the bottom; shows that you have to hit the Picture Style button for it.

Wireless must be enabled. If it is set to disabled, it won't pop up.
