wommby 0 Posted June 6, 2010 Hi, Am posting a question for my husband who shoots video. He is upgrading to the new Sony XR-550 or CX-550 and wants to get some new lights. He currently uses 2 nocturnals but is not happy with them for day light shooting. He says they are O.K for night diving but not good enough for day. He is looking at the green force 50 squid but is concerned that they may not be bright enough. Does anyone have in information or experience with these lights? Deb I would recommend the SQUID 150 or the SQUID 250 for daylight shooting. The Squid 50 isn't powerful enough.
Mike L 0 Posted June 7, 2010 The Squid 50 lights are very good. However, there are a lot of instances where he may need/want more light. The 250's are a great way to go, but they are big and heavy for a small camera...its a trade off that is well worth it. What housing does he have/looking at for the new camera? Pairing a set of GF lights with a Gates housing is a match made in heaven. He may also want to take a seriously look at the Light and Motion Sunray 2000x LED lights. jonny shaw 16 Posted June 7, 2010 I don't think that they make the 150's anymore, have you looked at the Niterider 40's, they are not too bad and only slightly more than the 50's I think. Or maybe hang on as long as possible as I'm sure Green Force will be releasing a new range pretty soon as the 250's have been around for a while.
Mike L 0 Posted June 7, 2010 Hey Jon, I wouldnt go with the Niteriders personally. The Squids are much more robust and reliable, not to mention the housings sit flat on a surface better than the single square Niterider pack. Green Force has LED lights for diving, but Ive yet to see or hear anything about LED Video lights unfortunately.

I think he is now leaning towards the 250's and possibly the gates housing. Was looking at the Aquatica housing but may now consider the gates. Hi Jon, Any ideas when they may be releasing a new product range? Deb The Squid 50 lights are very good. However, there are a lot of instances where he may need/want more light. Mike, Another question - How good are the Light and Motion Sunray 2000x LED lights. Rob (my husband) doesn't appear to think LED is the way to go? Mike L 0 Posted June 8, 2010 Deb, I like LED a lot! They are so much smaller, more battery efficient, I like the color temperature with the HD cameras...to me its the way to go. I use the Sunray 2000x for all of our productions. Ive been using them for two years now, well first I had the 2000's and now I have the 2000x set.

Are you able to give some sort of comparison on the difference between the 250 squids and the Sunray 2000x? Deb
