rahuck 0 Posted June 14, 2010 (edited) The picture below was taken off of Viti Levu (Fiji). Trip members cannot decide if there is a critter in the photo or not. Does anyone see an animal in the picture? Edited June 14, 2010 by rahuck
Scubamoose 0 Posted June 14, 2010 Ummm... the picture is so small it's impossible to make anything out of it Try to post it again with a bigger size. Cheers Karel

acroporas 0 Posted June 14, 2010 Does anyone see an animal in the picture? The feathery things are Hydroids, and the out of focus brown bit in the upper right corner is the Coral, Pocillopora, both of which are animals.
rahuck 0 Posted June 15, 2010 Can anyone put a name to the bluish striped object in the center?
Leslie 0 Posted June 15, 2010 That's a type of brown algae called Dictyota. Many species in the same family Dictyotales have this type of blue iridescence. Once the angle of the light changes or the algae is taken out of water the iridescence vanishes, allowing the typical yellowish-brown color to show. Here's an example from the Caribbean - Dictyota humifusa - http://www.stri.org/english/about_stri/med..._66115-situ.jpg
james 0 Posted June 15, 2010 Yep, it's Dictyota - but in a classic nudibranch shape :-) Cheers James
