Have I left it too late?

Recommended Posts

I've left it too late to book on any of the photo workshops that normally spring to my mind... does anyone know of any trips that would fullfill the following criteria?

  1. Is a Photo workshop (I like these because the diving is geared to photography and not in chasing the dive guides around, plus I'm used to the extra space)
  2. Has two spaces left
  3. Where the water isn't too cold (26 degrees c as a minimum, unless I buy a new wetsuit, which I could I suppose)
  4. No currents
  5. Preferably macro (I've been doing so much wide angle lately)
  6. £3k or less (including flights) per person
  7. Is between September and December this year

I don't mind if its a hotel or a liveaboard as long as its nice and warm and friendly and relaxed...

Any ideas??

many thanks

Suzy

Hi Suzy,

With the way the economy's been, there have been lots of cancellations and last minute openings. This usually comes when the money's due, about 60-90 days out in my experience. Look around for trips you'd like to do and contact the agent or organizer and put your name on the waiting list. That way you'll be the first person they call if spots open up.

Otherwise, just keep your eyes open (esp here) and continue to ask around. If you're flexible with your dates, I think you'll find something.

Good luck!

Phil

Hi Suzy,

This may be more expensive than you wanted but Eric has a trip to Ambon, Indonesia this November. According to this post, he has three openings. Scroll down to the bottom of the post to read about the trip to Ambon:

Hi Nige,

We went there in 2008. It was nice but it reminded me why I like group trips so much. I like group phototrips not so much for the learning (although thats always nice & useful) but because my buddy likes to dive but doesn't always want to do all the dives. We went just the two of us and I found I was spending a lot of my time alone in the water (the dive guide was off looking for other things to show me, he always came back but there were long times when I couldn't see him) consequently my photos from that trip were not relaxed – they seem sort of strained. Because I wasn't relaxed.

Usually I pootle around taking photos but I always like to see another human in the water (Ellen has dived with me she knows what I mean). So one on one tutorials might be a bit much but a group of divers that are not photographers is not quite right either...

Scubastu (www.stewartsy.com) is gonna send me a pdf of a whaleshark trip – has anyone here dived with him?

Many thanks

Suzy
