Any advice on good Kona Coast operators?

Recommended Posts

I'm headed to the Kona Coast area on the big island in a few weeks and need to make some dive plans. Does anyone have any recommendations in terms of good photographer friendly operators?

Jack's Diving Locker. Highly recommended. The divemaster on Jack's Diving Locker let me stay in the water alone long after everyone was back on board, so, as long as you are good on air consumption, you should be set.

In addition to the Dusk/Night Manta Dive combo, ask for the Black Water dive. I did it with Big Island Divers but Jack's Diving Locker has a superior boat (hot shower, etc.).

I liked Dive Makai - that was a few years ago.

Pacific Rim, smaller boats very good service but you have to meet at the marina

I dove with Jack's last year. I was happy with the dives. Particularly the Black Water Dive and the Manta Dive. I posted photos and info here on Wetpixel:

Kona Honu Divers are really good and they use Newton 44 boats.

Another vote for Kona Honu. Very professional and they understand how to handle housings.

Yes, they set up a special rinse bucket for just my camera. Also asked how they should pick up my rig when passing it to me and taking it from me.
